I recently got permission to hunt property in a small town, the section of woods this property is part of is probably 15 acres creek bottom. Problem is the property I can hunt on is only about an acre and half tops. The landowner knows who owns the rest of it and I may have to go talk to them to get permission to hunt the rest of it.

My question is, is the 1.5 acre to small to try to hunt. there is good sign thru out and like I said it is almost all creek bottom. My main concern is not getting the deer to the 1.5 acre but if having to track a deer to neighboring properties.

if youre hunting on 10 acres or more. It should be fine. but 1.5 acres that's small. id give it a shot. theres always public land for plan b

All you need is the deer within your shot range. I'd just make sure there wouldn't be any issues retrieving a deer off the neighboring property. The two private places I hunt are small, but I know there's no issues getting my kill.

Make sure of all the above.
If you have the right wind and don't over hunt it you should be fine.
    Good luck.

Out of all of my properties, one stand is by far our best...it is on a parcel which is 5 acres (3 is yard/home)...best stand PERIOD. Size of the property plays very little factor on whether good or not. I agree, build at minimum a good relationship to track hit deer on neighboring.

I killed 4 deer on 2 acres in 2013. All of them expired on the neighbors property though, luckily for me they were cool and let me retrieve them without a problem.

I was going to go and talk to the landowner of the neighboring property and try to get at a minimum permission to retrieve the deer and hopefully get permission to hunt it also.

I have never had to get permission like this because growing up I always hunted family land, but now my family and the 2 hour drive I don't get to hunt there much so locking down this private land would be good for me.

Put some feet time in to talk to the neighbors, you never know, you might be able to score some more properties there too. I have a friend who allows me to hunt her 10 acres and I walked around to the neighbors to introduce myself and let them know what I was doing. Two neighbors granted me permission to hunt their 10 acres too and two more gave me permission to retrieve deer on their property if need to.

I got permission to retrieve a deer but no go on hunting. Kinda makes me happy though she said they have never let anyone hunt their property and this woman is like 90. So hopefully I can get those non pressured deer to come my way on the property I'm allowed to hunt.
