Tonight I finally get to hunt a stand I have been waiting all year to hunt. (Update) I picked out a stand early this spring during a scouting walk on the farm I hunt. I put up the stand in June. I will be sitting along a tree line with standing corn behind me and beans out in front. I don’t have any information that deer are actually using this spot as it has been very dry here so it is tough to tell deer sign right now and I never got a trail camp there. But it seems like a perfect spot. At least by the book. I assume the deer are bedding in the corn and will come out and feed in the beans. The actual spot where my stand is a fence line funnel as well so hopefully this use that spot. Well based on the latest data the wind is right so I am going to try it tonight. I have a good feeling about this. The only problem I see is that it is warm tonight (currently 81 deg @ 1:00pm). Wish me luck.
Well tonight turned out pretty good even though no harvest. I passed on two smaller anterless deer @ 20 yards. Never knew I was there. They fed in front of me for about 10 min and then moved on. I also had two large does heading right for me. They came to about 50 yards and looked like they were going to cross through the fence line funnel I was posted over. I had the wind in my favor but for some reason they changed their mind and went farther up the fence line. Guess there must be at least two crossing points . I will give it another shot later this week or next weekend whenever the wind is right again.
