Been watching the new hunting shows on OLN and it seems all of them are relying 100% on some deer attractant like "The Crush" or "Acorn Crush". So its almost like a 30-minute advertisement for these attractant, but with one small twist. First off you see them setting up a brand new stand/blind, and the deer show up 30 minutes later in droves. But when you watch the deer come in to feed, its obvious the "hunters" piled up this attractant either behind a log, or a pile of snow, so from the camera view, you can't see the bright red pile of "Crush". When you watch Hank Parker, he and his kids throw C'mere Deer everywhere and don't hide it. But these newer shows almost seem like they are trying to hide from view the fact that they use this attractant (yet you still see cut-away shots of a bag of "Crush" with some rattling antlers leaning up against it). Does anyone else notice this and think they are trying to purposefully conceal that from the 'kill shot' video?
I don't think that is the case, but hard to say without seeing the actual video in question. Typically a show is using a product due to sponsorship, that being said naturally both the sponsor and the show will want to show the product being effective IE. killing a deer over it, in the case of an attractant.
Hard to say without proof, but at the same time if it's legal to use then they are in the right to do what they want. I guess in a perfect world it would be nice to know they aren't trying to hide it though.
If you think about it, how many of us could make a hunting show out of our real hunts? Mine would be a squirrel watching show most of the time.
Guy that has a show on the sportsman channel hunts next to us. It's illegal to hunt over bait in iowa, but they do. I took a video from the fence line of it one day. Just because.
A few nights ago it was Driven TV. They had this big log and all these bucks are eating something just behind the log, so you couldn't even see the head of the deer. Yesterday can't recall what show, but they were hunting Saskatchewan whitetails in the snow, and it was obvious someone made a 1-2' high 'mound' of snow and something was behind that mound that these bucks were tearing up. I have nothing against baiting and its obvious the stuff works. It just seemed weird to see a deer eating something and you couldn't even see his head. A good videographer would know you put the bait in FRONT of the log so you can see the deer eating. Of course on the other hand, if the deer's head is behind something while eating, it makes it easier to get a draw on them. Maybe that is their strategy. On the Driven TV episode, Nicole totally gut shot a big buck and he took off ("To be continued..." the ending credits said....).
It is a fairly common practice to pour minerals and attractants onto dead logs. Could that have been the case?
I've seen a lot of Kansas hunts on TV over the years where they are trying to cover up the fact that they're hunting over a corn pile. As others said they typically hide it behind a log, bush, etc. Yet it's not hard to figure out what's going on when every deer who walks up goes to the same log to feed for 5 minutes. However they never show it or mention it when they kill a deer. If it's legal where you're hunting then you should by all means show it. Why bother hiding it? If you're ashamed or embarrassed you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.
I agree with Justin but I don't even see why they use that Acorn Rage or stuff like that. Ive tried it before and even if a deer comes out they never even look at it. Waste of money..
If it worked anywhere close to that wall-e would have them lined out the door like people buying .22 shells
