Saturday, 10/20. Wasn't nearly as cool as the previous two mornings (when I had to work), but I did see two does browsing their way through a cutover behind my stand. No acorns to speak of and no sign that any have fallen (pine needles and leaves undisturbed and we have pigs, mind you). We're not hunting over corn bait sites this year so hunting near briary cutover edges is a solid choice. Even without corn I have pics of deer and pigs crossing here. I'll try again tomorrow morning. My wife gun hunts and she killed a pig on 9/9, our only pre-Hurricane hunt, and then our first time back after the flooded roads receded was last Sunday. She busted a nice 8 point with her 243 at 8:15 AM.
Too windy for me this morning. But a really nice guy I know killed an old SC public land buck. Put on a stalk to do it, too. He's a good bowhunter for sure and a great guy, too. Here's the link to the story with pics. http://www.scoutdoornews.com/forum/showthread.php?35428-Public-Old-Buck
No idea, but he looked like he was going to die of natural causes in that deep swamp. His teeth were worn out!!!
Last three hunts have been rather uneventful. Haven't seen any bucks, just does, and none I could get a shot at. But any day in the woods is better than being anywhere else.
