Originally Johnny and I were supposed to leave this morning for Illinois for one last hunt. Over the weekend, my truck wouldn't start and had to be towed in this morning, so we planned on leaving tomorrow afternoon.

A couple of hours ago I got a call from Johnny as he was on his way to the ER. He proceded to tell me that his girlfriend was in a car accident and didn't know the status. A few minutes ago I received a text saying he wouldn't be able to go.

I look back on the day and the few minutes I was feeling sorry for myself this morning for the lack of hunting I've been able to do this year. The events that have unfolded throughout the day have brought a reality check to what my priorities are and what's really important in life.

I look at my wonderful understanding wife, who is due with our daughter in less than 4 weeks, and in the eyes of my 3 year old son and realize how blessed I am to have my health and a wonderful family.

Tonight I pray for Johnny's girlfriend, our good friend Scott and all those who really are in a place of need.

With a tear in my eye, I ask everyone here to do the same and know that there is a lot more to life than this passion of ours.

Do I wish I was on my way to meet up with Mr. Brasky? Of course.....but its not really that important. Later this year, next year, whenever....he may or may not be there, but it matters not. What matters are the people around me and being the best father, husband and friend I can be.

God bless those who are truely in need.

    Good post Dan...

I hope every thing works out for both Johnny's girlfriend, and Scott (and family)!

    Prayers sent.

How easy we take things for granted, what really sucks is we don't realize it until an unfortunate event opens our eyes, we're all guilty of it.

Life is very short, so short that many of us get caught up in our passions/works/careers/schooling, that many times we over look the small things in life. This passion we hold dear to us, has actually brought a lot of us together, and closer in many ways. Leanne's and my thoughts and prayers go out to those that need it tonite, tomorrow and for every day that the sun rises and sets.
    God bless
    Reese

When Johnny was on his way, he knew nothing about what had happened. I just got a text from him saying that she just got out of a CAT scan and only has a severly broken wrist. At this point, they don't know what they're going to do about it.

As bad as a broken wrist is around this time of year, im glad to hear that it isn't anything serious. I guess this is a great reminder for everyone to be greatfull for what they have. Also in some ways it's a reminder on why we do so much to get out for every little bit of hunting that we can. You only live once, and you never know when your time will come. Just take advantage of everyday you have.

Sorry to hear Dan.. was pulling for you guys down south.

Tell Miller we'll keep him and his girlfriend in our prayers.

I always say.. Hunting is what I do.. not who I am. Keep that in mind.. you're gonna be a dad again.

My heart broke wide open a little over an hour ago when I read about Scott's fire. It just split open again reading this.

Both will be in my prayers, not just tonight, but for as long as it takes.

Wow, what a crazy couple of days this has been. Sounds like everyone will be ok in the end, but it sure makes you stand back and look at lifes priorities a little different.

Take care everyone and hope you guys all get back on your feet soon.

Really sorry to hear this news as well Dan and thanks for sharing your thoughts and perspective, your words are wise. Prayers for Scott and Johnny's GF sent from the mountains of N.I.

As for Bill Brasky, if the big man upstairs wants thats one to happen it will in time.. I am more proud of you for taking care of what is really important. Family.
