Me and the girlfriend had tickets to the Toby Keith concert last night and we are sitting up on the lawn when a local morning DJ walks by and starts talking to everyone around us. I introduce myself but he seems to pay no attention to me except he keeps staring at me like I have 3 eyeballs. I was thinking whatever, this guy is weird...I never really listen to this country station anyway. Next he asks me if I like my seats up here and I told him no, not really...I'm sitting on my ass up here 2 miles from the stage. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out an envelope and says go sit up in the front row, you'll have a better view. So I'm sitting there with 2 front row tickets in my hands and he starts walking off before I could say thanks. Anyway what a weird experience. As for the concert, what an experience. He is a hell of a good time when your up close. Sipping Jim Beam all night and cussing politicians and terrorists. I just hope I can save a little bit of my luck for bow season.:d I'll post some pics sometime when I get her camera.
That is awsome! I have seen Toby twice over the last few years and both times he put on a great show! Never to got to see him that close though!
That's cool... did you catch him at the Verizon Ampitheater? That's a pretty good place for a show, if so. Small environment, good sound. I caught my favorite band when I was growing up, Rush, there last year, and they put on a heckuva show.
Congrats man, that's pretty sweet! You should see his "palace" here in Norman... his house is unbelievable!
Where's those pix? I was at the concert when he played here in Pittsburgh. I've seen him several times & love his music.
Mo, the same thing happened to me at a (don't laugh) Martina McBride concert. My sister and family made me go!! My wife, me, and my family were sitting in the very last row of nosebleed when some guy comes up and tells us were moving. We were surprised when he pointed to the seventh row of the floor seats. Needless to say, her voice sounded much better in the seventh row.
I've met him on several occasions, been in the band bus, road managers bus etc... I am friends with his ex road manager (who was also the road manager for Reba and other big name country singers). Every time he comes into town to play we go see him. We get all access passes and get to hang out after the show back stage with the band. Toby however is usually already in his bus for the evening. He's a great guy top notch all the way. My wife and I ended up talking to Rich his lead guitarist most of the night and I even played him a song I wrote on my guitar....it was way cool! The guys in the band were way approachable and all great guys to hang with. When I first met Toby (about three years ago) I didn't know but my buddy (his ex road manager) talked Toby and his entire road crew (present road managers) into giving me grief for winning the National Championship at BYU. You see Toby is a huge University of Oklahoma fan and BYU ended up ahead of U of O in the standings that year (1984). Well I show up with my ring on and the first guy I meet (his present road manager) looks at it and says....."you get that outa a Cracker Jack box?" Well it went down hill from there as they all started to give me a ribbing LOL!! Then I meet Toby and he is as pleasant as can be and says nothing about the ring. In fact the very first thing he says to me (after eying me up) was "hey big time". I guess he told my buddy earlier in the day after hearing of the plan to give me a hard time something to the effect "You say this cat goes over three bills"? "I ain't saying a word about his ring!" There is so much more I could say and so many cool and unbelievable stories of Toby on the road...A great guy no doubt! I've got some pics of us, I'll try to dig them up.
I don't think you can do to much more head banging T. What little hair you have left is surely to fall out!
Finally was looking through my pictures and found all of the Toby pics. Here they are. Us on the lawn before the front row tickets... Screw the politicians!!
Ok, now for the important question....Did he play American Soldier? It brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it & Love that song!!!!
What did you think of that girl he brought out? Man she could belt it out. Heck of a voice. Can't wait till she makes an album(if she hasn't already)
