After 20 years of dipping a can a day, I'm in my 24th hour of being dip free. It's TOUGH! Its been a LONG day of lusting over a dip! I think I'm finally at a point where I want to quit. I have been chewing nicorette and its the only thing that has kept me from going insane.
DC! I am really proud of you man. Please know that many of us here are pulling for you, so you are not alone. Please let us know how you fare and if you need any help.
Congrats man! I know how hard it has been for my friend, and he has only been chewing for like 5 or 6 years. Best of luck to you
Thanks guys. I made it through the night and I think today is going to be easier. The gum and the sunflower seeds are key to help me get this done. This thread had a lot to do with me finally giving it up. Thanks VS!
You are welcome DC. I really hope you continue on the right path. If you relapse, do not give up. It will be the best thing you can do for your health....and for your pocketbook.
Got some bad news guys, Ive always been anti-tobbaco... But recently, after being at the FD for 3 years around it, and some long hours shed hunting, ive taken up some social Red Man chewing. Not addicted by any means...but when the good times are flowing i dont mind having one in...
At your age I didn't mind either. It was Levi for me for years. If you get past the social chewing aspect, then you need to watch out. Don't take it too far at your age and you will be ok.
Im not too worried. My parents dont mind social drinking ect., but they are VERY anti tobacco. Which keeps me straight.
I do the same thing, I chew Levi at work and shed hunting, and on road trips sometimes. Not addicted at all, but its nice to be able to chew while your having a slow day at work or something
Its not going real great. I have 2 months and I want to be done. I will be putting every effort into it soon. Thanks for checking on us. Keep it up. It will help us out very much.
Dan, do you think exercising a bit more could help you blow off some steam and forget about the cravings? I know it helps me feel better.
It might. I have a hard time exercising tho. I played soccer for 14 yrs so you should think I could get out and run but I've had some trouble with my knees and hip. I'm to young to have these kinds of pain. At 20 I should be able to do anything!!! HAHA. A majority of chewing I do is at work. I sit on my butt answering calls so I get bored. I may just buy a BIG bag of sunflower seeds and chew on those all night.
Pipe and occasional cigar for me. I quit chewing when a can went to $7.00!!!!! No thanks, congrats to all you quitters out there!
Man I have purposely been avoiding this thread since I pussed out after 6 days the first part of Febuary and started smoking again. Sorry I did now after reading this. While the token is very generous... the message alone is suffice. Thanks bud !! The smoke supply runs out by Monday so I will give it another shot then. The snow is melting and that will help by get out tromping to keep my mind off it. Work is going to be tough but I can take my hostilities out on the guy I work with when the craving turns me into a bear. I owe him anyways... the twit. I will also ditch the Mt. DEW which is another very bad habit of mine. It ain't gonna be pretty !! Monday it's on !! Tim
One thing to ponder, you cannot drink all the time anywhere, making it easier to be a social drinker...you can however dip/chew anywhere, even where tobacco is banned. that makes the risk of forming the habit increase greatly. I am pushing 3 years of no dip, I will be 32 next week. I dipped regularly for over half my life, started because some other guys I played ball with were doing it. got to college and we could not dip in practice or during games, simply mixed a little in with big league chew etc...I am by no means giving you a lecture, but i have never been addicted to a thing in my life, other than a habit (dip) that started as a casual activity. Please shut it down now, before you are 29 and almost could'nt quit. And farve sucks...to lighten the tone
I'm two weeks in without a dip. I have been chewing a lot of nicotine gum. It definitely helps. The first 3 days were by far the worst. My gums begged for a dip. Now I don't really want a dip, I just want nicotine.
Brought back to life for the guys who are still on the fringe of whether to quit or continue dipping/chewing/smoking. Read the posts and draw on others strength when attempting to quit. It is NOT worth it to get mouth/tongue/lung cancer from something that is preventable. Brett
