Ok so here is the run down. with the hoyt i have. i cant use my single pin sight. and with the 7 pin sight i have. the farthest i could set my pin is 80 yards without having trouble seeing the target. so im 5 yards short of what your asked for. if this bugs you. well.... i dont care. I did this for real. this isnt a 'ill recored every group and post the best one' this was my second arrow of the day. i recorded the first shot but accidentally deleted it. so this is my second shot of the day. the way i see it. it isnt about your best group once warmed up. this is all about the first cold shot of the day. its that 1 shot that matters when hunting. but to please you. i also took a picture of my best 3 arrow group of today... just a fyi. i shoot 4 arrows a round. so obviously my 4th arrow was a flyer. but whatever. my best 80 yard group of the day all i have to do is make this a every shot thing and then i can try and get on the american archery team while shooting my 11 year old hoyt.
Cool deal. Thx for posting. I'm good out to 60 but my eyes just aren't what they use to be anymore. I hear ya on the flyer. When I started back last year. My flyers were always to the right, about 2 1/2 feet. I finally worked the bugs out. It was fatigue and holding my breath. But, it was a form of target panic. Thankfully it is gone. I would love to shoot 80 someday, if my eyes will let me. My release isn't where I want it yet, but some more time and I'll get there.
I watched that video a while ago. I was the first to like it. Good shooting. I will admit I can't hit a 3d target past 40. I shoot dots well but not 3d deer. But don't worry I can hit the vitals at 30 and my longest shot would be 20
Honestly. All you have to do is set your last pin as low as it will go and still be usable. Aim and shoot. I let my sight float around the target a bit when I pull the trigger, and somehow I still usually make a great shot. You don't need to have the best vision. But if it's really bad. Truglo makes. 2x lens for the single pin Range Rover.
Damn mission. Get out at long distance and practice! Aside from the past couple weeks teaching my girlfriend how to shoot. I would never practice closer that 40 yards. I don't know about where you live. But if you want to kill deer out here. You better be comfortable shoot at out to 50-60 yards.
Why are you drawing with the wrong arm? Kidding, of course. Good shooting dude. I can only shoot 50 at home but have walked out there with one arrow many times and made that my only shot. Doing that makes you realize what your effective max range really is.
60 is far enough. I could get contacts and fix everything - but not until I have to. You have to have good eyes for everything - I had 20/13 and my sons currently have 20/13. If I ever get contacts, I will be fitted for what helps best with a bow. My dad was 2nd best in the world in Sporting Clays. He had his eyes, and glasses, fixed just to see the clays better. The first doctor that worked on his eyes said he understood what he wanted, but after the surgery - it wasn't right. He walked a doctor, in Canada, outside and showed him what he wanted to see and at what yardage. The doc nailed it. Went to Europe and won medals as individual and Team USA.
I practice at 50 mostly and have 4" groups if not smaller when shooting at a regular target. Not exactly sure why I can hit 3d targets past 40. The longest shot I could ever take would be 30 yards. The stuff I hunt I super thick so it hard to get long shots.
Practice 3Ds as much as you can. Those bright color targets are great for building confidence. But learning to really focus in on one spot on a plain target is a little trickier. I need to paint my 3d to blend in the spray foam.
And practicing in low light helps a lot to. I love going outside just as the sun is setting and shoot my 3d. It really puts the ego in check.
This is my average group at 30-33 yards on a 3d deer. Past 40 it will open up pretty good and that's where I need to practice. I don't really shoot it that much since it's not mine.
60 is my max practice range and I honestly don't do it very often. My max range that I usually practice at is 40 yards which I feel a lot more comfortable doing as far as my confidence go's.
I can go back to probably 100-120 yards but I won't do that far for a few reasons. 1. My target isn't big enough for me to try that comfortably and 2. I don't have enough pins or a single pin that would allow me to go that far without having to guess.
