Vaccinate. I don't get the flu shot though. No reason why really.

Well, I for one will be doing a delayed and modified vaccine schedule.

My sister had a reaction to a series of vaccines in the late 70's, leaving her severely mentally handicapped. My niece and nephew have Dravet Syndrome and my niece in particular had her first seizure hours after getting a vaccination.

So, my son won't get anything until he's at least one year old. At that point, we will be vaccinating for some things, but not others. If you want an open and honest look at vaccine statistics, ingredients, manufacturers and risks, pick up The Vaccine Book by Robert W. Sears (a pro-vaccine MD).

Lumping all people that don't want to vaccinate into the wreckless hippie category is as accurate as saying every bowhunter is just like Chris Brackett.

Polio, smallpox, etc., are deadly diseases. Any reaction to a vaccine is worth the risk. Measles, pertussis, etc., are not in that category, although, of course, fatalities do rarely occur.

A child's brain is still undergoing substantial development up to the age of six or so. It's my opinion that avoiding unnecessary medications until that time makes sense, especially given some disturbing trends, particularly with regard to autism, since vaccinations became a fad.

Our oldest is now seven and has been vaccinated. Our younger daughter will soon be five. She will be vaccinated when she turns seven.

It should not be necessary to say this, but please be assured that your VACCINATED CHILD will not get sick from exposure to my Unvaccinated child.

I believe in vaccination. I was vaccinated and have never had any problems related to it.

I'm not a parent but I think it's stupid to not vaccinate. I would rather have my kid have to deal with some "problems" (which I'm not convinced are real) than die from something that our health care has solved a long time ago

I always wondered if the anti vaccine crowd takes medicine or if it's only a big pharma conspiracy for vaccines...

Those databases blaming vaccines for deaths are "questionable" science at best. Not worth trying to discuss because both sides have already firmly made up their mind. Facts debunking the myths surrounding vaccines are overlooked.

Maybe there are zero deaths in the US because most people are vaccinated. If you look at the worldwide statistics (at least according the WHO), there were about 145,000 deaths last year from measles. Why? Less developed countries who don't have easy access to the vaccine.

There are counties that do not vaccinate, move there and let us know how it goes.

For those that are against vaccinations, your child stands a must higher chance of perishing in a car accident vs passing away from a vaccination yet I see people driving their kids in the car every day.

Medicine is/can be great. Modern medicine is incredible at treating illness. I might not put as much belief into their ability in preventing it as some though. Hell, they told us margarine was better, and eggs were bad. Now they say eggs aren't nearly as bad as they said for the last few decades.

That database (VAERS) is government run I believe.

Of course the exact same could be said of all the diseases vaccines are for...

Guns kill more too. Diabetes kills more also.

Again, I'm not against vaccines (mostly playing devils advocate), but I'm also going to research every shot that my child gets. Especially with my families history of reaction. My mentally disabled sister who is 37 but cognitively about 1 year old (wears diaper, can't speak, etc) is a constant reminder of why I should take a closer look.

The simple fact is that nearly every claim by anti-vaxxers has been proven wrong. Instead of fessing up, they just move the goal post. They say vaccines have mercury, and they did, but it was such a small amount, and the body passes it right out of the system, unlike the mercury from fish or the mercury in your water supply. So they caved and removed mercury, and then they found something else.

These people just don't want to be wrong, they aren't worried about the truth.

People die from taking Advil, and there are risks to taking medicine. The only reason Polio is gone is because of the vaccines, and people refusing based on shotty science are endangering those who cannot get the vaccine due to medical issues. I don't want anyone to be forced to do anything, what we need is education and understanding.

Our education system is a mess, and until we fix that, not much will change.

One thing I've having a hard time tracking down are yearly numbers of measles case by country, not just deaths. It would seem that would be a much better indicator of effectiveness of the vaccine as the death rate is influenced not just by how many get Measles, but how they are treated (Vitamin A).
