I have been busting arrows at an alarming pace lately. I don't shoot groups at 20 due to the high mortality rate of shafts. I'll have to stop shooting 30 yd groups now as well. I've busted 4 arrows in the past 2 weeks. And that leads me to my question. Should I keep shooting what I'm shooting? Presently I'm shooting Beman MFX 340s. Before that I shot Easton Axis 340s, a similar shaft. I've been kicking around the idea of trying CX Maximas, just for the weight forward thing.
Tell me, what do you think? What do you shoot and why? I am somewhat of a tightwad too. Carbon/aluminum hybrids and Aramid kevlar are not in my budget unless you can convince me otherwise.

And why can't I buy arrows here?

I just made the switch from a cheap Sportsmans Warehouse brand arrow to the Maximas. I like them so far, but being new arrows I've probably only shot them about a dozen times. So far the biggest thing I noticed is more penetration into my target.

Well, thats the thing, I'm down to 5 of the ones I'm shooting. I've been busting shafts not just nocks. I'm up in the air over getting more ST type arrows or trying the CX weight forward stuff.

I am extremely impressed w/ the axis shafts I shoot, when I get to running low I do believe I will go back to them.

How are you busting them? What kind of target are you shooting into? I've broke the odd, graphite shaft before. But no where near the amount your talking about. I made the switch to Easton FMJ's and the only one I broke was passing through a buck.

I hope your checking them between shots so one doesn't blow up on you.

Yes I do check between shots. I shoot into a Rinehart 18-1 and a Morrell's bag. I'm busting them by almost Robin Hooding them. Thats why I won't be shooting groups at 30 anymore.

I can fix that..quit aiming in the same place! I don't care what arrow you shoot, if ya hit one with another, the outcome won't be good.

Pick another spot, use a marker to add additional spots. Have multiple targets at varying yardages.

Well yeah! I've figured that out. I quit shooting the same spot at 20 a couple years ago. I quit at 30 now.
Now back to my question. What shaft to go with now that I need to buy more?

Thats what I'm looking for! I didn't know that about pin nocks and bushings. I may well go that route. Thank you Jeff.

I say stick with the arrows you are shooting. If you are that precised, why change. I have not shot at the same spot in 6 years due to this. I got tired of changing nocks, reflecthing arrows, and splitting some on occasion. I bought a Morrel bag with 16 spots and shoot at each spot.

I love the Maximas, also  but they cost way too much to be busting them up :d . . better aim for different spots

Sounds like your accurate, so why change something that's not broke? Stay with the same arrows!
Just buy a couple of more targets to allow yourself different aiming points...

Greg, put down the Compound and start working on the longbow.:d Saves arrows, and keeps you humble as well.:deer:

Just kiddin'. I like shooting groups, but I also hate busting arrows. I try to shoot at different spots most of the time.

I also shot many arrows in the past and have come around to the CX Maximas. They are great arrows and I have really reduced the number of broken arrows.

ST's!! I can't remember who it was, but a personal friend that I trust did some experimenting with the Weight forward and had little or no convincing results. If you are breaking your bemans, you'll be breaking the Maxima's as well. I've shot a lot of arrow and you'll be hard pressed to find a tougher arrow than an axis. Simple physics tells us that you can't have the same amount of material (wall thickness) and have different OD's. Period. Same amount of material packed into a smaller space. Shoot maxima's out of your bow along with your Bemans watch the penetration difference... just sayin. :D I wouldn't switch. Oh yeah, and if price matters... KEEP THE BEMANS!!

Keep the same arrow. I only shoot 3 arrows at a time (or bullets). This will minimize the probability of tubing another shaft. Give groups of 3 a try, it might help.

Why did you go away from the STs' in the first place? I have now my 3rd set of ST's & love them. I've used a few different brands, but settled on the ST's. If you look hard you could even find some of the pre-nano's ST's. I like those the best. In fact I bought a brand new dzn of those to use strictly for hunting.

in my opinion the maximas are over priced, no offense to anyone. I just believe they arent worth the extra money you pay for them. Although the bushings on the end are nice for saving shafts but the dont save ripped vanes or feathers falling off so just shoot at different spots on the bag. I just purchased a dozen Easton Flatlines and fletched them myself. they are a pretty quick arrow because i like my speed i guess and i can misjudge distances and get away with it a little more because they shoot so flat. bottom line i dont think Cx's will make you any better and you pay more.
