I have never planted a food plot nor have I ever been any kind of farmer. So dont think I'm an idiot. Anyway I just got back to the house from a long venture around the farm and I went some places I haven't been in years and realized that they are perfect for some small acre or two plots. Is it to late to plant now?

Don't know where you are but it's too late to be planting warm season stuff. Cool season crops are either time to plant or a bit early like for me.

Brassicas, wheat, rye, clovers and alfalfa are all cool season types of plants. They need to be planted early enough to get a bit of growth before frost but late enough to not be hit hard by dog day heat and no rain.

So which of these that you have named will draw deer the best? I hear that it basically has to freeze and kill everything befor they will touch the brassica, and I know just about every thing loves clover and alfalfa.....?

I plant mixes so the diversity offers something palatable through late spring. Except for the semi perrenial clovers like white, red and the alfalfa...they should be planted in nearly pure stands but some mixing works fine.

Personally I mix turnips, radish, wheat, rye, crimson clover and winter pea and mix it heavy on the winter pea and crimson clover side because I like the nitrogen fixation.

Crimson clover and wheat (oats, barley) and turnips is about the easiest thing to grow in the world, they will pretty much sprout in gravel but of course are annuals. I don't know that anything will pull deer better either. Chicory and Sainfoin are arguable arguably better but expensive. Whitetail institutes Edge product is pretty good with those two varieties in it.

Nope. Both WI's no-plow and also the winter pea plus has radish in it and the listed planting date on their chart is August 20th through Sept 30th

You're very welcome, hope it helped and works out if you plant some stuff.
Also, Monster Raxx is selling food plot mixes now, might be worth checking out. I've never used it but may be as good as any of the bigger/older established companies.

Most of the same stuff can also be bought in bulk cheaper if you can search around and find them.
