ok....SO, hypothetically speaking....I am thinking you have too much time on your hands LOL. :D
Like I said earlier, I would pass, however knowing in the future that the property would hold more than one giant.
Now in saying that. If you don't kill this deer, are you forbidden to hunt on property in the future? That would prolly sway my decision somewhat.

Not what I meant. Meaning something like this.... a person promises a friend he would not murder someone when he got mad...so instead he hired a hitman to kill the guy. At least the guy kept his promise to not murder.......

Then on top of that the "non-murderer" wants to keep the body.

BUT man if you have a chance to go arrow a big old buck.....just go have fun and do it. You only live once.

I guess, just like anything else in life, if you would have enjoyment doing what you obvious love then I wouldn't have any problem doing it.

virginiashadow's last three or four posts echo my sentiments exactly...

including his last where he said if you want to take advantage of it to get in and have a special hunt with a big old buck, go for it! :)

I would hunt, you will always have the memories I do find it odd that randy is so focused on the rack. Imho I would think that he hold a grudge if you took the buck he feels should be his.

I can see where the situation would be wierd for some, but Randy is a good friend and customer of mine that I have known for years. It has been a dream to hunt this piece for a long time.

If it were to come about, doubt it would, I would just look at it like a semi-guided hunt. Hell, guys on this board do it all the time, only difference is they keep the rack.

Again, I really don't care about the rack in this situation, only the experience to hunt this particular ground. I do enough scouting on other pieces and work hard hunting every year.....sometimes its just nice to sit in a tree and not have to worry about any of that and just focus on killing. Afterall, we are killers.

I would be glad to kill the deer, maybe after he see's how you handle yourself with his ground and the deer you can lock a lease in on the ground.
ten years goes by fast, and he is willing for you to kill one i can only think more will come your way.

hell if it is a monster, get a cast made.

I find that on most of the ground that people let me hunt on set up the rules and i follow them to the letter, got some of it because the last hunters did not follow there rules.

If it was only buck tag for the year, I'd think about it. I know you travel, so I would do it with hopes of having future access to the land. If he is a good friend, it's not like you wouldn't be able to see the rack again, it's not like you are selling it to a stranger or anything. I can put myself in your place, just not Randy's. I don't quite understand it. If I were Randy, I'd just keep my promise, shed hunt, and then enjoy the gift that his father in law gave him.

Dubs....I don't have to read the other responses (and I haven't). Hypothetically.....if he allowed me to go in there after this buck....you damned right I'd do it. If's a free-ranging (I assume) animal....and there's no one saying you can't take a ton of photos with the beast.

What's the rub? Go kill the damn deer.

    It's JUST a deer. It's not a unicorn.

Dan, you might think about leasing the area for 10 years. Maybe he doesn't need the money and maybe he does. He'd be keeping his promise and making a little money in the process. You could also trade places to hunt. If you own land let him hunt your place too. Have him take some pictures, would love to see this big ole deer.

I saw a hawk circling......the thermals were in a counter clockwise direction and we got busted.

But, that was just my observation.

The more I have thought about it, the more I think

    KILL

Heck, if someone asked me to come fish their pond for 10-15 pound largemouth bass, I would do it in a second even if I had to surround the fish.

    KILL

    Pardon me.

But I'd still kill the freakin' deer.:D

I'd even play ouija with Randy and the deer, if it made him feel better. Hell, get a game up before you shoot it. Maybe pops has changed his tune!
