    ......that is the question.

What would you do in this exact situation?

A guy, who we'll call Randy, has 600 acres that is basically a sanctuary that no one, and I mean no one, hunts. It was originally owned by his father in law who was an animal lover and actually paid people to patrol it during deer season. When he died, he asked Randy not to hunt it for 10 years. Being the good guy Randy is, he agreed.

OK, so this land holds some great bucks and Randy knows them all pretty well. There is one particular buck that has massive bases and a double mainbeam....a true giant. Randy would like to hunt this buck, but he made a promise.....and promises are made to be kept.

One day Randy calls you up and says he has an opportunity for you. You can come hunt this land, that absolutely no one has hunted for years, but you can only kill this particular buck. Randy knows the buck pretty well, has him patterned and has tons of pics of him.

There is one condition.......if you kill the buck, Randy gets the rack. ;)

    So, what do you do?

Too weird for me lol. Land that is some sacred no hunting paradise? Someone up above looking down on you not wanting you there? I'd feel like I was going to be struck by a lightning bolt or something. Then get put on a buck that someone else knows everything about and I know nothing about? And to top it off I get to kill it and someone else gets that rack? Nope.... I'll pass. What would be the point really?

Do it!!!!!!!!! Give him the rack after you make a mold of it and make your own mount. The experience of hunting that land alone is worth it. No matter what it's a win win for both of you then.

I've played mercenary before. Not sure I'd care about the rack of a deer that grew up on a sanctuary and has been thoroughly patterened by somebody else.

I wouldn't mind the meat tho'.

Still.. I'd probably tell the guy to just pick up the deer's sheds if he really wants the rack that bad.

Take the opportunity. Scout that particular deer and along the way you'll pick up information about others. This will hopefully play a part down the road as I would hope Randy lets you hunt in years to come.

    Get some pics :D

Truthfully though, sounds AWESOME, but weird. I would like to enjoy my accomplishments, and probably hunt the land again.

Yep, this. I'm not doing it just to do his dirty work for him.

I would have no bad feelings about hunting a sanctuary -- heck, that's what I TRY to find each year before the season starts ;) -- but if I kill the buck I'm keeping the antlers.

I see flaw in this situation. Randy has promised not to hunt it.....however are other people allowed to hunt it?
If the land is posted no hunting....are you not breaking the law by hunting it?
but in all honesty...no I would not take "Randy" up on his offer.
Beside....why not let this sed "giant" sew his wild oats. That would make for more than one giant in the next 10 years.

He has. This is an older buck that he would like too see someone shoot, rather than die of old age.

No flaw.....Randy and his wife now own the land, so they make the rules. Its just that Randy himself promised not to hunt it.

Whether he's there or not, there will still be giant bucks on the property.

Funny, I haven't seen the pics of this particular buck, but of some of the others on this property. ;) I heard he just picked up one of the sheds.

I enjoy all my accomplishments. Some come along by hard work, some by knowing the right people......each has thier own special memory.

The antlers don't mean that much to me. I've got plenty of bucks on the wall and have found some world class sheds......its all about the opportunity to hunt a giant and see some other amazing bucks.

I would tell him I would do it but, after killing his deer and giving him the rack, he would have to let me hunt it for 1 more deer that I would keep.

Sorry, kill. Randy promised not to kill any of the deer himself.

You only get one archery buck tag in WI. And again.....its not about the rack.

This really isn't a personal situation, more hypothetical.....though Randy, the buck and the land do exist.

I was thinking more as a second opportunity to hunt again. In truth he could have the second rack too but I would think the second hunt would be a bit more "free form" than going where he said the deer would be when it would be there.

Wouldn't this be comparable to a vegetarian asking a meat eater to chew meat for him/her then vomiting the chewed up meat into their mouth. I don't eat meat, but if someone else chews it for me, then that is ok......................
