As a 12-year old, you just don't understand finances, taxes, wealth, and property ownership quite the way you should.

I used to bust my dad's balls about why some people had their own places to hunt, while he and I used to have to go out to the gamelands and fight for a spot on opening day. We had a ramshackle old camp built on a quarter-acre lot at the edge of the gamelands. It was a ten-thousand acre playground that was a paradise to me, but a big buck haven, it was not...

Dad & Mom worked like slaves, kept a roof over our heads and food on our plates, but there was no family farm or back forty for us to hang our hats. We had 2 cars in the driveway and a modest family home, but that's as far as Lincoln would stretch.

Now, I understand and appreciate that.

The old man always said that if I worked hard, busted my ass, and kept my nose clean, someday I'd get ahead of the game...

Well, as of 11/13, two of my best buds and I inked the deed to our own little slice of heaven... 50 acres in the middle of Buckeye State big buck country.

Sure, it might not be much, but damnit, it's a place to hang our treestands and prop up a little shack to call home. Its a start. Maybe sometime down the road, we'll walk into another good deal and roll it over into something bigger. Maybe the neighbors will be jerks, I don't particularly care. No matter what happens, we'll always have that honeyhole in our back pocket, and if we hang onto it long enough, I'm 100% sure somebody will get an opportunity at a Booner in there.

It's gonna feel awfully good to climb our own trees and put our names on those Posted signs. It's nice to have a real stake in the game.

Good guys don't always finish last.

Good deals do come along, and sometimes things fall into your lap when you're least expecting it. All you've gotta do is have the cajones to pull the trigger before it evaporates. It took sizable testicles, a few dollars and a small measure of luck, but we made it happen.

    Trophy Hunting Land - Check.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

If any of you fellas will be out there gun hunting over the next few weeks, be safe.

Congrats to you quick. I've been talking to my bro and dad for the last 2 years that we should invest in some land together. Saskatchewan has some cheap land and awesome hunting, only problem is it's 6-10 hours away depending on where you buy. But some of the largest deer in Canada come from Sask. Alberta has become too expensive for any land locally so it's slowly becoming a non option unless I decide to buy a place to make my full time home.

Very nice. You'll never forget the first deer off your own property. Makes those sleepless nights wondering if you did the right thing all worth it.

    Congrats on the land.

I got the same dream, but its still a dream. LOL!

I'll bet your all into thinking about food plots and some habitat plantings, huh?

I suggest some sawtooth oak saplings and some apple and pear trees.

I'm happy for you, and can certainly understand the excitement.
