The time has come to say goodbye to money and hello to new tires. I am looking to get some larger tires (285/75r16 or maybe even 295/75r16), and definitely some with lots of tread. I'm not worried about ride (cranked torsion bars shattered that luxury), or road noise. Currently, I am leaning towards the Kumho Road Venture MTs in 285/75r16. I can get them for $180 apiece, and they are even 10 ply. Anybody have any other recommendations or experiences with a certain type of tire?
I just put on the cooper SST mud tires and they seem to be really good. I have a bunch of buddies that have them and have had really good luck. Just a option
The cheapest I can find the Coopers is $200 each online. Have you been through much mud or anything yet? Im getting tired of getting stuck lol
I'm gonna look at some Nitto Terra Grapplers or trail grapplers next time I have to get tires... no personal experience though. You might even be interested in the "mud" grapplers... http://www.nittotire.com/index.html#index.feature.offroad
I think the Trail Grapplers are pretty kick a**, but the price tag will also kick my a** lol. I'm just a college kid that hasn't worked since the start of archery season
these are pretty expensive, but i have mickey thompson MTZ (mud terrain) they are flawless is mud, i had them on a lifted 2wd truck (make fun if you want) and it would go anywhere anyone with no sense would want to go. these tires were perfect for the mud in missouri, they sucked on rainy roads. and in deep snow they did decent but all they did was dig through the snow hit the pavement then let me drive, remember though this was 2wd with no traction control, so basically a one wheel drive. i got them off of craigslist for a great price, and i am very happy with them. my friends have nitto terra grapplers and are very happy with them but i havent heard about them doing any heavy mudding. ive also heard great things about bfg allterrain, these are pretty much known for the best aggressive tire around here. im sure you have heard the same thing, but they do have some draw backs.
I put Toyos on my F150. I wanted a tall rugged all terrain known for wearing good and having low road noise. I put 35x12xR18s on the OEM wheels and logged over 40K on them and they easily had another 20k left. Rode smoothly, looked sharp, great tire....but with a price, a set of four ran me 980 after tax... My F250 came with BF Goodrich ATs on it with plenty of tread left, once they wear down I'll likely revert back to Toyos or roll the dice on some Mickey Thompsons.

I'm currently running D!ck Cepek Fun Country II s on my cj, but as soon as I sell my truck I'm going with Goodyear DuraTracs. I've heard nothing but great things about these tires.
Man, I didn't even notice that the Kumhos were on backorder there... Trevor, I bet 35s on your F150 looked pretty good. I have also heard good things about the DuraTracs, and they look pretty sweet
I have two friends that own tire selling company's. They both put Michelin's on all their vehicles. Yes they are a bit more $$$, but value wise you get it back. I bought my 1st set of Michelin's for my wife SUV 2-years ago, and 6-months later when I needed tires I spent the extra money, NOW knowing why my buddy's suggested this!
Are you going to be offroading a lot? If not, I would opt for a solid semi-aggressive AT. I'm currently running Nitto Terra Grapplers (265/75/16). I've had them for almost three years, and have put right around 40K on them. They're wearing well, and seem to do pretty well in most conditions. I'm not a fan of them in hard pack snow, but otherwise they're a good tire. I'm contemplating the Duratrac's as well. A lot of guys really like them has a great AT/MT crossover tire with a good tread life. If MTs, I would be eying the Cooper STTs, Toyo MTs, or the PC Xtreme MT.
If you want good and cheap. Go with general grabbers.720$ mounted and balanced out the door price. They bite in good in snow don't know about mud. Ground is a bit frozen.
I do quite a bit of off-road driving. My neighbor has a lifted suburban, and he likes to tear the road through the pasture up quite a bit. He has General Grabbers on his truck, and he says they don't do too well in the mud. I would like to get DuraTracs, but I currently only have $1000 in my account because I haven't worked all of deer season
I got 315/75/16 Cooper STT put on my truck almost a year ago. I love them so far they ride good and aren't too bad on noise.
i just installed the BFG AT's on my f150... they'v ebeen good considering i spend time traveling with it to AL and back... and they've worked well at the farm down there as well... the Nitto's and Cooper's had a shot on my truck as well if they had been in stock when I bought...
