So there's a golf tournament going on. Every day they show every shot, analyise every swing etc that Tiger takes. So it's the last day of the tournament and they're still doing it. The guy hasn't won anything in over a year but you'd think he was God of Golf to listen to the announcers. Right now it's the last day and there are 34 players ahead of him. He's 9 strokes off the lead. We've seen shots from about 10 players total. He's toast. When he outsmarted himself and dumped Butch and decided he had to reinvent his swing.... he went south. Get over him announcers. If he ever does something again then maybe it would be Ok to annoint the boy as God. Right now he's a second or third tier player with no wins in a long long time.
I never thought I'd say it but I couldn't agree more. He's done! His life is upside down, his swing is upside down and his brain is scrambled. And he aint getting any younger. Not a good combination for a PGA tour player. He's another "good golfer" on tour. Let him fade off into the sunset if that is what's going to happen. I'd like to see the media start focusing more on this young talent taking over the tour. Kim, Johnson, Watson, Fowler, Mcillroy, Mahan, Kraymer, etc... etc.....
It's about money. No one has been able to draw dollars, viewers and sponsors to the sport like Tiger has done in the past. I am not a Tiger fan, and think it unlikely he will dominate the sport ever again as he did in his prime. Truth it, commentators, networks, sponsors, and the PGA are trying to get out of whatever he has left in terms of positive impact to the sport while he still has any because they believe it will be the end of an era when he finally fades out...and I have to admit I agree. So therefore, for the sake of positive impact to the sport, I put up with it. That doesnt mean I like it because I dont (along with millions of others it appears). My guess is that with a winless season, I would have to believe this will be the last season you will see that sort of coverage of a dimming light bulb. I just wish he would go out like the light bulb does in my shed...all at once when I have am armfull of crap I need to put away at midnight...leaving me standing there like an idiot.
I'm not a huge Tiger fan....due to the phenomenon mentioned above. But, he IS the modern God of golf. His resurrection (if you wanna call it that) will be completed, pretty soon. I say he wins before summer's out. And, I say he wins a major this year. Tiger Woods is FAR from being "done".
How can you say that.... you've never played golf at that level. LOL The guy doesn't play enough events. He's pressing. He's got to find a hooker and relax.... then he'll start hitting the ball. Right now his game is so erratic and unsteady... he's not going to win. And the idea of one win making him all better is ridiculous. I think the young guns will pretty much eat him up from here on out.
Counting Tiger out would be like counting out Kobe Bryant after he came back from an ACL surgery or something. It just isn't something a betting man should do with much regularity.
There is alot of likelihood in both arrguements. Truth is, he could snap out of his funk in a month and start winning tournaments by 5 shots again. It is not that he doesnt have it anymore...it is just that he cant find it. Whether he is able to find it again is a coin-flip. The guy is a phenomenon, that you cannot argue. I bet if you took all of his money away he would find it again. It is amazing what someone is capable of when they are hungry. Personally, for me, he made the sport boring in terms of competitveness...and exciting in terms of shot-shaping and highlights. But, I want to watch a competitive golf tournament...highlights I can catch on Sportcenter.
No, Fletch. But, I've shot 74 (and 73, 72, 72, 71, 70, 69 and 68) @ Quail Hollow (home of the PGA TOUR's Wachovia Championship) from the championship tees. It's as tough a course as the ones they played this weekend. Why do you ask?
Totally different. Kobe had to heal from a physical injury. He didn't lose his shooting form or mental ability. Just throw him the rock and let him do what he's done all his life. Tiger has never done this in his life.
Coming back from a serious injury produces a mental block. Also, Kobe "came back" from the whole cheating thing on his wife that was huge news. He was put through the ringer.
To our teaching pros, has Tiger messed with his swing too much the past 7 years? Seems to me he has made so many changes he no longer has "his" swing.
Everything he's done is "Technically" sound. But, I could take Jim Furyk and give him a more "technically" sound swing in an hour. Would he be a better golfer, in the long haul? He's a US Open champion, man! ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Tiger's willing (always has been) to roll the dice. Like I said, he'll be back (and he'll win THIS year).
I am far from a teaching pro but would think that you are correct to say that he had messed with his swing too much. Any changes he makes now may be to compenstate for the knee issue. Also, he isnt getting any younger and his back may dictate a little different approach to his game.
I just look at guys like Watson who have not change a thing, and still strike the ball well. Watson was a putt away from The Open at age 60. Solid points Jeff
These guys change little things ALL THE TIME, Gary. A major overhaul is something many don't want to endure....or, think they can't keep their cards if they do undergo it (lean mos. or years). Like I said, Tiger's always been willing to roll those dice. If he never changed his swing, would he have won as many as he has? Hell no. He'd tell you that, too. So would most anyone who knows anything about golf. So, the improvements worked before. He's betting they will, again. AND....he can afford (he has no card issues or monetary concerns) to ride it out. The thing about Tiger is, he's a quick study.
