In August I am going to attempt to shoot in my first 3d shoot. I have walked along with to others before (Buckeye and Josh/OH) but I decided not to shoot, just be a spectator. What are some tips and/or suggestions to get ready for the shoot or during the shoot. I dont want to look like a complete newb walking around out there. By the way, the shoot is Aug. 2nd. - 30 Target 3D for anyone that may want to come along. Here is a link to where it is if you would like more information.
Excellent, thanks. Unfortunately I do not have a third axis on my sight. But thats where practice comes in.
My biggest problem when shooting 3D is judging the distance correctly. The suggestion of walking through the woods with rangefinders and practicing is great!
My biggest tip woud be to get your yardage down. When I take a walk in the woods I always carry my range finders and practice my yardage. I will guess the yardage and check with the range finders. My second tip would be to practice in different terrains...shooting up and down hills, from wooded to open, open to wooded and from tree stands. Last, but not least...DO NOT WORRY ABOUT LOOKING NEW!!!! Go to some shoots, pay the fee, but don't compete! Just shoot the course and get a feel for them. Don't worry about other people or how you are doing compared to them. Do your own thing and compete against yourself!!! I also carry a small note book to take notes on my shooting to look back on. Take Care and above all have fun. The harder you are on yourself the more likely you could develop target panic.
Bring along a pair of Bino's! Every target is different for the bullseye. When you can find exactly where it is you can really tighten in on the 12 spot. My score came up about 6 points when I started carrying them.
