I came up with an idea for those of you who like to use a pine cover scent. Find some trees that have been damaged and are leaking pitch. Take some large quantities of pitch off and place it in a flat plastic container. Put the cover back on and cut slits in the top to allow the odor to pass through. Lay the container at the bottom of your clothing container and there you have it. This works better then ANYTHING I HAVE EVER FOUND and it's free! It puts a stonger, longer lasting odor in your clothes then branches and is needle free.

Serious question...How's that work in an oak flat, without a pine in sight?

Like I said for those of you who like to use pine cover scent. If the shoe fits wear it if it doesn't move on. For example in the area I hunt you would be hard pressed not to find pine mixed in with hard woods. Oh by the way IT'S MARCH 14TH and I found 15 well used scrapes today from last fall along with numerous rubs....I guess spring scouting can help fall hunters. Imagine that Gr8atta2d. Even if that buck doesn't make it I will put money on there being another one following that path this fall.

Thats a good idea Gille. I have never tried the pitch before but I have used pine branches, peat moss, oak leaves and acorns before. I cut up branches to small pieces with pruning shears, smash acorns with hammer, then crumble leaves to release more scent. I use a womens nylon to put the mix inside. You take a 2 foot piece of 2"or 3" pvc pipe and roll the nylon up it like a condom LoL. Now just fill the pipe with the mix slide pipe out and tie nylon closed. I will put one or two inside my clothing container and seal shut, it works great. I use a different mix depending on the area I will be hunting the most. Just make sure your mix is pretty dry because it can mold/mildew.
