So all spring and summer I've had 2 or 3 hen turkeys coming and feeding on my bird seed 10 yards from the house. NO little turkeys, no gobblers.... just these hens like clock work every day... sometimes twice a day or for hours at a time. This morning at 7 I opened my garage door and ran head on into a pile of turkeys. Several hens and a bunch of little turkeys of varying sizes. They ran across the road into the grass and brush and watched me carry my trash to the street and retreat to the house. They faded away... thought they were gone. Then this afternoon I look out back. 10 yards from my house is a bank of nice soft sand. In hill 10 yards from the house are 4 hens and 15 little turkeys. I mean these suckers are 3 sizes from small to bigger. Smallest are like a partridge or maybe a cornish hen. Largest little ones like a small chicken.

Question: It won't be too long before we get fridgid weather and early snows and all that. Are thse little buggers likely to make it? A couple were like a jumbo quail. It appeared to be 3 distinct sizes. Anyway.... I put out a double dose of birdseed for the morning. LOL The hens have been almost tamed over the summer. I've had to shue them out of the lawn so I could walk my brothers dog. One day I sat on the back porch with the dog laying on the lawn. This hen walked within 10 feet of the dog. The dog just lay there quivering. When the hen passed she lunged for it and the turkey did a blast off that would have made Canavaril proud.

If they have feathered out then I would think they will be just fine.

That's pretty cool! You may have to keep feeding them all winter now that you have them trained.

This is a pic I got on a trail cam last week. Are these little ones about the size that you saw?? I don't recall seeing little ones like this at this time of the year.

I ran into the same thing last week on my property, came out of the woods to an open area and there were 6 hens with varying sizes of little ones. Some looked like they can't be more than a month old. I've never seen them that small this late in the summer.
