I just bought a new Vaper Trail string and cable.

My question is...does my cam have to be timed again after the change out? It's a single cam Mathews.

    Thank you,

    Eric

Yes. It should be close but after about 30-50 shots it will need to be checked and possibly readjusted. Draw weight, draw length, ATA length and brace height will all need to be checked and adjusted as well.

Rod, correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't say your string be the "rule". In other words, you could tighten all three and get ATA correct, or you could tighten cable or buss cable (thinking of cam and 1/2) or string alone?

When I change out strings/cables. I usually get my measurements from manfacture, and make my string as close as possible with tension. I always size my cables twisting up. I then adjust my two cables (on older duel split buss cables) to hit correct ATA and timing.

I am not sure with newer bows, you can do much about BH, can you? It always takes me longer than it probably should.

How do you go about it?

    Big,
The keys you're missing in your first question are draw weight and draw length. They're more important than ATA since the ATA usually has a range associated with it , as does the brace height. The draw length and weight need to be dead nuts. Tightening a cable increases weight and increases draw, tightening a string decreases weight and decreases draw. Tightening either string or cable decreases ATA. That's what drives which one you tighten in order to reach the correct ATA range. The key is to build the string and cables so that they don't need to be twisted very much from what they were served at when built and if they are twisted it's better to tighten them (thereby tightening the serving) than to loosen them.

In general you're right about the brace height but it should be correct if everything else is. I find that brace height has a lot to do with cam rotation on the newer 2 cam rigs especially those with big cams. If the brace height is off it may indicate that the cams aren't in proper rotation.

This is why I will pay someone else to change my string. LOL

Make sure they know you want them to time it as well. If you tell someone to change your string, they may just take the old one off and put the new one on. Ask beforehand.

Thanks for the great info. I am going to pay someone to do it, I just wanted to know for my own knowledge, and now I know. Thanks again.
