I lost some arrows tonight and need to get more. Im shooting a PSE Bow Madness XS set at 65# and a 27" draw and 100gr broaheads. I want to do the fletching myself so i only need the shafts. I was wondering what are some decent ones i can get fairly cheap?
Gold Tip Velocity Hunter great arrows eBay 36.99 free ship 1/2 dozen 56.99 free ship for a dozen shafts only
I would say the Eco-2 but there sold out. HT-2 From Harvest Time. I believe 15% off on a promo code right now.
Yeah, I think the maxima hunters would be about your best choice. Get a bohning fetching jig and you'll be set.
I posted about replacing my arrows the other day, I ended up staying with my MAxima Hunters. I've shot two deer this year with the same arrow, and can't wait to put it through another
As far as spine, go with something in the .400 spine class, cut at 27" and put a 125gr tip out front, that will give you a great FOC, and you'll shoot better than you previously did if you were shooting a SHORT arrow with a 100gr tip. As far as WHICH arrow brand, read on... Support the "Americans" and buy Beman/Easton products.... All the rest of those are Korean, Chinese, or Mexican made aren't they??? The Cabelas' arrows in my signature are AMERICAN MADE, and shoot great. The 17 of them I'd robinhooded over the past 4-5yrs are a good example of the consistency of them. I RH'd several just setting bows up, and at $55/dozen raw shafts for a TOUGH durable arrow... I punched one of them through half a dozen deer before blowing it up in a creekbed after passing through the 6th deer!!! Consistent, durable, American Made = A win for the archer and the company selling the product!!!
Ok, I do not know which arrows i should get regarding grains. I shoot a litte over 60# and hunt deer and hogs?
Carbon express is based out of Michigan, can't think of the name of the city but it was right next to where I went to college. Still can't think of it. Anywho. I have maximas and they're straight up tough. It mostly depends on what weight you want to use. I've been eyeballing some 8.9 gpi gold tips or some of the 9.6 gpi easton axis. Also, Doug do you think a .400 spine might be a little to weak with a 125 grain head and 65 pounds? 65 is very close to the charts to jumping to a 340 spine. I do agree cutting it a little short would help that. I guess there's just a bunch of ways to going about this. To the OP, the goal is to meet a desired weight with a 12-15% FOC (front of center) Still can't think of the name of that city, pretty sure it starts with a S though.
If that's the Bowmadness XS it's about 318fps IBO rated I believe, which puts it in the medium cam selection area, and at 27" DL, the .400 would be fine, at 27" shaft length with a 125gr tip according to OT2. Also, I agree with this, if possible, at least be above 10%, which one the "avg" .400 arrow we'll say using the Carbon Stalkers or Beman arrows, a 125gr tip with the 21gr insert using blazer or duravanes puts that arrow around 16% FOC!!! Which will guide that arrow very well in my experience. I set my nephew up with a .410 arrow with a 125gr tip 1/2" longer than his DL 29" shooting 60#, and his arrow fly great, his FOC is 15% on his set-up. As for the arrows to choose, if DoeDropper read my post then the question wouldn't even have been reposed.... I've heard many people say great things about the maximas, and I picked up half a dozen to see what the hype was about, I also shot GT XT's the better version, PSE Radial Weaves, and a few others over the past few years, I even shot some 2219 XX75's, but for my $$$, there is NOTHING any better than the Cabela's Carbon Stalker Arrows. They are a Beman ICS Bowhunter .003 straightness shaft, and they just flat out shoot well for me out of EVERY bow I've ever shot them out of (except the 82nd, and they were just too weak spined for all that torque). I've tuned and BH tuned at least a dozen bows maybe close to 20 bows using these arrows, RH'd 5 arrows just setting sights up, and for me, that's enough to sell me. And at less the $6/arrow fletched up and ready to use, those RH's really didn't even hurt too much. The last dozen or more, I just pulled apart, put the destroyed arrow with a bunch I have in the rack of one of my bucks, and drove on.
I might add that Cabelas has a sale on those specific Carbon Stalker Extreme arrow shafts and they are only $44.88 right now per dozen... At that rate, I can have a dozen arrows cut and fletched up for less than $60!!!
Did any of you CX guys read the Original Post? (OP) Prices from Lancaster CX Maxima Hunter shafts: $149 / doz. Easton Axis carbon shafts: $99 / doz. PSE X-Weave Pro shafts: $99 / doz. CX Maximas are good but they are NOT cheap! They're probably the most over-hyped, overpriced arrow on the market. The Eastons are made in the USA like Doug said. The PSE's are the straightest (+/- .001"), most consistent (+/- 1 gr. / doz.) carbon shafts in that price range. They break clean just like the Axis (no splintering). And they're as tough as anything on the market. I don't have any experience with those Cabelas arrows Doug is talking about. The reviews I've read on them are great and if Doug shoots them I trust that they must be good. I've just had issues with Cabelas branded stuff in the past that stick in my mind too much to allow me to trust them. I'm shooting the Easton Axis but only because I already had a bunch of them when I discovered the PSE X-weaves.
I'll agree, I've had some stuff from Cabelas and BassPro that wasn't up to par, but these are basically a Beman Shaft with a Cabela's label painted on. Actually, the really cheap arrows that Cabela's used to sell WERE Carbon Express arrows. I got a dozen for $37 years ago, and they were worth $37, but not much more. These shafts are good shafts, tough, consistent, and if I can shoot them consistent, anybody ought to be able to.... :D Heck, at $44.88 per dozen raw shafts, I don't know how a guy could possibly go wrong....
I use Easton flatline DOAs around $80 a dozen, you put em together, not the cheapest but good arrows Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
