Snow storm blowing thru tonight, supposed to drop 5-8 inches by noon tomorrow, then the wind is supposed to pick up tomorrow. The boss said to stay home.;)

So I'm going hunting.:) Going to my farm and set up my ground blind in the corn where the bucks came out last weekend. Then set up the scarface decoy like it's eating in the corn. Maybe even plow some of the snow off the field so the deer can get to the turnips and clover better.

Then it'll be time to break out the Heater Body Suit and take a front row seat in the blind. Next to opening day this is the best time to hunt the food source. The bucks don't have to participate in the rut, but they do have to eat, and eat lots to maintain body heat right now.

I'm afraid if I get off of the food plot very far this time of year, I'll spook the deer bedding near it. They won't be too far from food this time of year and the woods is so open they will see me setting up. So I'll be right in the middle of it.

    Good luck John!

It looks like Johnny and I had a miscommunication on when we were going down for the last trip. He thought it was this weekend and I thought next. So, it looks like he'll be going down without me as there is no way I can make it this weekend. So, I'll be living vicariously through you!

I'd love to have a blood trail in the new snow. That would be COOL!

Hopefully you can get in there and get set up. The bucks on our place are bedding about350-450 yard off of the main food source (standing corn). Good Luck! I'll be out also!

    Good luck John. (and Johnny)

I really need to get in some more hunting before season ends... but I heard the deer have all 'left the building' down where I hunt. Oh well.

Good luck John! I've found the same thing at my place in past years too......this time of year if you have food they are bedded right on top of it usually.

I'm really kicking myself for not getting some turnips in this year. :( Dan and I are still headed down to my place on Saturday for one last shot at putting one down.

Sounds like a good game plan John, that fresh snow should let ya know where they are gonna be coming in and out. Hope one walks by, I am headed for Montana, bitter cold over there I should see some movement to and from feed as well. Hunting off the ground like U.

Good luck! I'm thinkin about heading out in the morning as well assuming I can fall asleep at a decent hour. I've messed my sleep schedule up pretty bad over Christmas break.

I'll be out hunting right along with ya, bud. I'm happy with my season if I shoot one more doe.

    What is the Scarface decoy?

If it is a large buck, I don't think I'd use it. I think the bucks are pretty much fought out about now. I think a small doe decoy would be the ticket.

Good luck JM. I have 3 more sits in my season. I have been playing games with my rival doe all week. I'd be thrilled to kill her (been within steps) this week twice. Have fun.
