Does that mean people with gas ranges are filling up their homes with gas fumes when they cook?

Whooops someone already beat me to it.

Not trying to pick a fight or say you're wrong ; ) but also gas is a natural source too. So is petroleum.

Charcoal is ok in moderation if you are not a "well done" type of guy. Charred meat contains carcinogens which is found to increase a risk of cancer. What doesn't increase your risk, right? I would stay away from the cheap blue / white bags as they include a bunch of additives. The use of light fluid is extremely toxic. Recommend using a chimney starter instead of using lighter fluid. Allow extra prep time! :) From what I understand wood is less evil of the two.

Propane or white gas is much better for you and more friendly to the environment.

After going through several different grills I purchased a Weber. It is now 11 years old and almost looks as good as the day we bought it. If you buy one I would recommend spending the extra money on the tarp for it and keep it covered when not in use.

Heckler. You bring up lighter fluid. I'm confused that stuff all burns off before you put your food on.

Also to stop carcinogens clean your grill the charred stuff on your grill getting into your food is bad

We picked up a Brinkmann a couple of years ago. 4 burners on the main grill and an searing burner plus the side burner. Not sure it will last nearly as long as my Weber Genesis did but it was much cheaper and so far has done a great job.
