I understand what you're saying. My (and a lot of peoples) point is that style of offense simply can't last long term in the NFL. There's a reason why every team in the league has a different style offense. The college game does NOT work against NFL defenses. If it did you'd see everyone doing it. Been a lot of Tebow type QBS coming out of the college game that are asked to forget what they used to do in college and become an NFL quarterback.

Agree to disagree I guess. It just is what it is. Again, I'm not a tebow hater. I hope he has a long career. I just don't see it as a QB.

I think the game is changing. The way the NFL is starting to protect offenses, don't be surprised if more and more running QBs don't find success. They are no longer at risk of being killed, just slightly maimed.

Anyone think Cam Newton will NOT be an elite QB? He is Tim Tebow perfected. Runs, throws, does it all...only better. Will he too fail because it isn't "NFL" style?

Maybe they were similar in college, but not in the NFL. Not even close. Cam has a big arm and can make ALL the throws an NFL QB is asked to make. He is a pass first QB. Timmy is not.

There is not a good comparison to Timmy. He is unique, one of a kind...both good and bad.

Newton is the QB Tebow is trying to become is how I made the connection. BOTH are excellent rushing QBs only Newton has the arm that Tebow is trying to develop.

I think they are very similar style QBs, Cam is just better at every category. We say Cam is pass first (technically, every quarterback is pass first), but lets not forget he just broke the NFL record for rushing TDs by a QB as a rookie. Dude is a RB with a perfect arm to go along with it. He is the total package, and is what VY, Tebow, and even Vick all started. I may eat crow eventually, but I see him surpassing all the above guys, and eventually rewriting what we accept as a QB in the NFL. He had plenty of boneheaded rookie mistakes this season, but once he curbs those, watch out league.

Now back to the Tebow love/hate fest as scheduled! lol

Couldn't agree more. If there will be a quarterback to change the way the position is played, it will be Cam Newton.

As we enter the golden age of Quarterbacks and pocket passing? Tim's about 20 years to late to rewrite anything.

No starting job in 2014....mark it.

I get the dual threat comparison, if you consider Timmy throwing the ball a threat. It pretty much ends there. Having the arm strength and learning to make the right throws is different than not having the arm strength to begin with. Maybe fixing Timmy's mechanics will help some, but Cam has a big league arm. Now that doesn't mean Timmy can't win games. He has proven that he can. He could very well lead his team to 8-10 wins on a regular basis, but he is still a different QB than Cam. The Panthers run a pro style offense because Cam can make pro style throws. The Broncos are running an offense that the league hasn't seen on a full time basis. Thats why there is no good comparison for Timmy...he's unique.

And I agree, he should be the best of all the names you listed when its said and done. If he stays focused and they build around him, he could be special.

Thats tough to say. Someone will always need a QB and a great leader/teammate. The higher the draft pick you were, and the more hype, the more people will continue to take chances on you. He may not be starting in Denver, but it wouldn't shock me if he's starting somewhere else in 2014.

I think he will have a fairly long career, whether it be a starter, part timer, or backup. He's just a good guy to have on your team, and would probably be the most positive backup QB you could find. Also a good mentor for younger players. He'll be around for a while.

Very true. Does anyone remember Don Strock of the Dolphins. Made a career being a back-up.

Just for clarification, I was saying Newton would rewrite history as far as the QB position goes, and he will be starting for a LONG time to come. I think Tebow ranks anywhere between 7-15 on QBs in the league, he will never surpass that, but will never be a bottom dweller either simply because he IS a dual threat. You can NOT drop back into heavy pass coverage on a guy averaging like 6 yards per carry, so that will always leave open the possibility for open receivers if he can hone in his accuracy to find them more frequently. Several teams would trade their starter for Tebow, he is an asset to a team.

He has done nothing but win at a high rate thus far in his life, Jury is still out if he can continue to. I hope he does cause it's great entertainment (arguing about him, not watching him play unless you turn it on with 5 minutes to go)

I'm not saying Newton will fail but with his style and if ANY QB tries to run as much as he does and takes those extra hits.....the odds will catch up to him and he will get injured. He will need to adjust his game or he won't last.

Perfect place, low expectations, and a cult following. Great pick Dan...

Now for Mr. Newton...local product, saw him play in highschool. He has some serious ability and numbers, but he also has Mr Steve Smith, the nastiest, meanest, go get the ball at all cost wide receiver in the league. He has helped Cam alot, and Cam will miss him dearly if he is traded, leaves.

Dan I dont think the Jags will be in Jacksonville in 2014. I dont get the fact that Tebow is lumped in with other qb's that run. He can not throw the ball, I can see some one lumping him in with Vince Young or a bunch of full backs, not Cam Newton.

    Rough day for Tim...

    6/22 for 60 yards, 1 int, 1 fumble (7th fumble in past 4 games)

Good luck against the Steeler defense next week...you will need it

Rodgers was 0 for 0 today. Tim statistically had a better day.

The true Tim has been out since he was 12. Unorthodox, ugly to watch but a winner.
