This isn't about me having some great need to defend Tebow, just argue with the silly arguments of some of the detractors. I think Tebow is an average QB in the NFL who has had a above average season, and has never done anything but win on every level of football in his entire life. I look up to him for the life he lives, but that has nothing to do with his on the field performances IMO. I have always thought completion percentages were over rated, Brady has never had extremely high numbers on that line either. What matters in football, and most sports is turnovers. Thats what loses games, not dropped passes ( or overthrown passes in a lot of Tebows cases). Decker has been great this year, but he would be the second option on literally every other team in the NFL. Tebows low completion percentages are both his terrible receivers and his terrible accuracy. I enjoy debating (as if there was a doubt). I like what the guy stands for and hate to see people tear him down before he even fails yet. He never will be elite in the league, but he isn't as terrible as many people act.
I chuckle when I see comparisons to three hall of famers that may all 3 go down as top 5 all time, Brady already having earned his spot there. You got me, Tebow isn't as good as the 3 best QBs in the league, he must be garbage.
I DIDN'T compare Tebow to those guys You indicated that completion percentage is not important...so I showed you that the best QB's in the league are at the top of the list in that stat...I guess that must just be coincidence though huh? Seriously??? 48%??? I can't even believe anyone would attempt to defend that.
I never claimed he is anywhere in their league, so why would a comparison to their completion percentages be important? They all have amazing TEs and WRs, and a more accurate arm. OF COURSE they will have higher completion percentages. You know what they have in common with Tebow, low interceptions, scary low. Turnovers KILL you in football. IDK how many times I can say that. Controlling the clock by running and playing the clock with a great D to back you will win, so long as you do NOT turn it over. This weekend proved that with his atrocious 4 picks! Does anyone think Tebows stats would still be <50% if he had Deon Branch, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, and Chad Ochocinco to throw to? Tebow is a middle of the pack QB in the league, nothing more but also nothing LESS! People act as if he shouldn't be allowed to be a starting QB, when he keeps proving otherwise.
I don't understand in what capacity are we allowed to discuss Timmy? Especially with the amount of coverage he gets. Aren't the top players usually compared to other top players? Its like we are only allowed to talk about everything Timmy does well, on or off the field, or you are a "detractor". Lets just look at how his passing stats rank in the league, out of 33 QBs listed on NFL.com Completions - 33rd Attempts - 31st Completion % - 33rd Attempts/game - 33rd (7 fewer than the next closest guy...some dude named Matt Moore) Yards - 31st Avg/completion - 22nd Yards/game - 33rd TDs - 26th INTs - 2nd Rating - 25th TD/INT ratio is 2:1. Not good, but average. He has fumbled 11 times in 11 games. That is pretty poor. Doesn't exactly scream "lets get this guy tons of coverage!". Look, we all know why Timmy gets the attention. Lets not sugar coat it or try to convince everyone he is a good NFL QB. He's a nice guy that has a big cult following. There are extremes on both sides of the Tebow camp. There are extreme lovers and extreme detractors.
Vito pretty much sums it up. Say something negative or point out his shortcomings and you're a Tebow hater. Fact is the same things could be said about other QB's in the league and nobody would cry foul. In fact they would agree with all of it. Different rules for Timmy. That's what rubs people the wrong way. Nothing to do with him as a person. Just people turning a blind eye to the facts and stats, and justifying somehow because he is who he is. Ammusing really.
I agree. I have nothing against the guy what so ever. I'm simply calling his performance like I see it. I hope the guy succeeds but there are aspects of his game which need serious improvement in order for that to happen. John Elway has spoken of this several times this season.
Just like ANYTHING in the NFL, once teams start to figure Tebow out, well see his true colors. I bet he isnt starting opening day 2014 (somebody PLEASE hold me up to this).
He will take us to the Super Bowl in the next 3-5 years maybe twice. He is a great athlete and seems like a great guy. Anyone that holds true to their beliefs and tries as hard as he does deserves to be successful. As long as he doesn't pull a Kobe Bryant or Tiger Woods or Brett Farve or Rothisburger but I don't think he will. You have to try to not like Tim Tebow he is a likeable quarterback. A couple more years and he will be a great quarterback.
Please...stop with all this offensive crap. We all know no one here would find that piece offensive if they were mocking a Buddhist player that constantly talked about his faith in Buddha.
I always thought of you as someone with above average intelligence ... but the above statement does not speak to that .... there are A LOT of people on here who have put their very eternity and life on the Lord Jesus Christ ... you have heard of discernment, yes? Use it! Of if you won't, then please speak your complete mind everywhere .... I am betting someone kicks your *** at the gym this January ...
I have no problem with people finding that skit offensive, especially christians. Just like a buddhist might find a skit mocking buddhism offensive. The difference is when a majority is the being mocked. Most don't care (because being the majority is usually pretty awesome and they are just glad they aren't the minority), or many don't feel sorry for them (see previous reason's explanation). Thats why this skit wasn't made into a big deal. Just because something isn't offensive to me, doesn't mean it isn't to someone else. I can't be the judge for them. Now, can we please get back to detracting Timmy?
By that logic, if every NFL team did what the Chiefs did, the Packers would never win another game. Things change, players get better (rarely do they get worse when they start their career, i.e Ryan Leaf), game plans differentiate with each opponent, players improve weaknesses, turn weaknesses into strengths, etc. That could be a true statement assuming he doesn't improve and his skill set stays exactly the same and the coaches keep running the same game plan over and over again. He'll gradually become a better passer and experience will teach him to make better decisions. Plus, he's a dual threat quarterback, and those are always tough to figure out. You get my drift.
I'm basing this off his love of the game, his drive to succeed, his success from college ball, and lastly I just hope he becomes a great quarteback. It would be nice for kids to idolize somebody with morals and eithics for a change instead of these money hungry, homewrecking, unmoral athletes we see many of today. But its just my opinion and not worth a heck of a lot
I have to disagree and that's where the stem of the whole Tebow argument comes from. He's not going to become a better passer all of the sudden. Dude has been doing it since he was 6. He has flaws and a lot of them. You don't teach someone to throw a football at this level. Like Steve Young said... you're born with it. It's a connection between your fingertips and your brain. Tebow is a great competitor, athlete, person and football player. People arent arguing that. He just can't throw the football and play the QB position at this level. I' Could make that case for a LOT of people before him. Agreed, but doesn't make him throw the football any better. I wish him well and hope he proves everyone wrong. I just don't see it happening. Throw the dude at fullback or tight end IMO
He's not preaching from the press conference pulpit. He's not actively abusing his position to spread his beliefs, he's living his life and his beliefs the best he can will having a microphone on him every waking moment. The SNL deal....I'm not offended by it, if you're looking for entertainment, there it is. If you want truth, look elsewhere.
