http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/blog/d...on-green-golf-world-splits-in?urn=golf-321079 So is this a lack of respect for the game and other players or is this not a big deal? The commentator called it "disgusting". Some in the golf world are up in arms and others don't think it is a big deal. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M9dI3-riFg
Personally, I don't think its a big deal. But on the other hand, I can see where the other people are coming from. It probably wasn't the best place to choose to spit on his part, being such a popular golfer and all
2 things: No. 1 - no rule infraction....since he didn't spit in anyone on the green's line of play. No. 2 - if you watch the video again, it looks like he "wipes" away the spit when he walks back by. No harm - no foul. David Duval had dipped while he plays the TOUR for YEARS. I'm sure he does this all the time. Again ....no harm - no foul - only disgusting if you're a true nanny.
It didn't seem like too big of a deal to me. I think he did swipe at it when he walked by. I don't think that commentator would have too many friends where I live. He sounded like he had a stick WAY up there.
It bothers me just a little, but by no means the end of the world in golf. It's just one of those unwritten rules in golf. The green is finely manicured flawless area of precision. To take a big ole wad of spit and hurl it is just not quite right lol. I'd sure hate to have my ball come to its resting place on Tigers spit. You usually spit, fart, blow a snot out of your nose someplace other than the green. But like I said not as big of a deal as it was made out to be. Slight breech of golf etiquette. Something that isn't practiced everyday by Tiger.
Just playing devils advocate here Jeff... but the European Tour did fine him. So I guess they are saying that there was a rule being broken.
What happened to the days of "MEN". I mean honestly, has men gotten so weak wristed, that they worry about another man spitting on a green grass? Freakin sad state.
I think its time to pull Tiger out from under the microscope and leave him alone for a day or so. And I don't even like golf.
Agree with NY. If they're citing a rules (rules of golf) infraction, I'd like to know what it was. I certainly can't think of one. You can't cite a player for interfering with a line of play that hasn't been established.
Again, just playing devils advocate. Is there a limit? Could you take you foot and gouge up the green as you walk off and not break a rule? I'm just asking because I'm not sure at what point it's a rule violation and a ethics question. I don't know much about these golf rules. FTR, I believe better judgment could of been used but it's not that big of a deal.
Big deal. Football players sometimes piss in their pants to keep warm or when they cannot make it to the rest room during inclement weather.
Mr. Advocate...lol Player (IMO) would be subject to disqualification (AKA a "trunk slammer"! via 1:4). Damaged portion of the course would be GUR (ground under repair).
Unbelievable!! It seems golf these days Is for upper class folks with their nose up In the air by the way some of these commentators talk. Big fricking deal!!
So the difference is the green has been damaged. Gotcha. Now I know. Edit: For the people it bothers, I'm guessing it's the same type of unwritten rules as baseball players have where they should not run over the mound when returning to a base.
Honestly, I've never heard of any unwritten rule about not spitting on a green. With the rules as they are now, a player is even allowed to use a towel to remove loose impediments from his line. And really, is that spit gonna be there when even the next group plays through? MUCH ado about nothing.
I definitly agree. Makes you wonder if he would have walked off the green to spit, before his put, what they would have said about that. Wait let me guess, the spit would have hit somebody and there would be a lawsuit.
