Got into my stand just about 4:50, been having the deer run the "low road," so I thought I might have a good chance tonight....well, at about 5:30, there was a little THWAAACK action.....:DCoyotes are singing some songs tonight as well, waiting on my little girl to get home from Gymnastics, and gonna go get here, nothing great, but it's MEAT!!!
I didn't have to wait but about 20 minutes, the Yote's were and still are singing some songs tonight, but they weren't quite that brave tonight, THANKFULLY!!! Got a couple "hero" shots coming up....she did have one blade slice her heart, but it wasn't enough that I felt like taking a pic of that.....Eggs and Inner Loins for breakfast......:D Haven't aged her yet, but I'm assuming she's 3.5-4.5 years old. Pretty decent fat layer, decent body size, I'd guestimate live wt. at 175-180#....Just guessing. Shot her w/ my Katera XL, my "classic" Cabela's arrows, and a Slick Trick Magnum... Part of the trail in the last 20yds....
congrats. Those slick tricks sure do a good job. I'm a little jealous that some of you guys still get to hunt. I've been stuck reading other peoples hunting stories since dec1.
Thanks for the "Congrats" guys, it's been a very frustrating season at this point, so this was a good way to end it.......I've never killed a deer past the end of December, so this is a first for me. Having my 5yr old follow the blood trail was to topping on the cake. Thus the "Hero Shot."
CM, I like them all the way around, fly perfect, are TOUGH as hall, and sharp as all get out. I have several that have HUNDREDS of trips into foam, and still sharpened up just fine, including the BH that went through this doe....
Congrats Doug, its great to see ya involving your daughter Great shot placement as well:D Do you have room for another? i have an ohio tag left. ( my ohio guided hunt came up empty)
Hey Thanks Chris, much appreciated. My little girls LOVE deer, and they'll come out to the barn when I'm skinning or butchering, and just watch and talk to me. I suppose that's a good thing. The 5yr old had the flashlight in her hand the whole trail, not a LONG one, but she followed the trail right up to the deer. And I though it was AWESOME!!! Still smiling thinking about the look on her face when she "found" it. I saw it go down, so I sort of knew where it was, but the suspense for her was great. Sorry you didn't tag out over here. I used to have some GREAT places, but as old farmers have passed on, and a couple LEASES snuck in, etc, I've lost a LOT of good places to hunt. 7-8yrs ago, I'd have hosted a couple people, and they could have almost been assured to kill at least a doe or two, nowadays, I'm having a hard time tracking them down....I probably didn't help my cause too much killing a nice doe w/ pregnant w/ twins, but I'll have about 50-60# of good clean meat in the freezer from her, and two happy little girls because they'll have jerky......:D
Congrats! Great shot by the way too! I shot ST mags this year for the first time as well and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I think I'll be sticking with them for quite some time.
Thanks Guys!!! Brandon, Actually the shot was more quarter-to than I realized, but she may have moved a hair before it go there. Still did what it was supposed to though, one little stripe on the heart from a blade, and the lungs were JELLY!!! The front lobe on the off side and rear lobe on the rear side were the only lobes still intact when I opened her up, I figure 3 our of 5 lung lobes is doing pretty well. :D Now to go butcher in a couple hours.....
