I have been looking forward to getting into this spot with the climber. We've shed hunted it for years but this is the first time I was allowed to hunt it. There is actually trees to hunt out of then my usually find a spot on the ground and hunt. I still carried my stool just incase I couldn't find a decent tree where I wanted to hunt. After shed hunting it for years... I knew exactly where I wanted to hunt the tree belt. The walk in is a mile with thick cattail slough to bust through half ways there. I hoped to find a deer trail going through the cattails but no such luck. LOL Carrying the climber, bow and heavy back pack made it real fun. Once I got past that, I had an easy 1/2 mile of walking. Shortly into the second half of the walk... I could make out a flattened area in the tall grass in the dark ahead of me. I know right away the coyotes had found something. As I got closer... I could barely make a good main beam with fairly stout tines sticking up. It was a pretty good 4x4 but I wanted to get to my spot before light so I continued on. Well the spot I picked was indeed a pretty good one. I found a tree that I could watch 2 trails and a fairly recent scrape. That morning 11 deer came by with 3 of them being bucks. The biggest buck was only 120ish. I still have hope of shooting a bigger buck so I passed. Fun morning to say the least. I sat there until 11 and then got down to go get pictures of the skull. Once back to the climber... I decided to move it as the wind switched a little. Wasn't much of a move but I could still cover the two trails and scrape. Glad I did as that night I had 4 does and 3 fawns come by. Had I stayed... I would have been busted big time !! No big bucks showed but still a good day. I heard coyotes not far from me... both in the morning and evening but didn't have any come by. The mile long walk out wasn't too bad. LOL Wished I could have gotten some pictures of all the deer but I had to put the batteries in my pant pocket just to warm them up to get shots of the skull. My digital doesn't like the cold at all. Here are a few pictures of the 4x4 skull... Tim
