Im thinking about making the switch to a thumb release. I've been looking at the hot shot tempest or the carter chocolate addiction, and I was wondering if any body has these or any good or bad things to say about them?

I have the Carter Choc-lite, bought it 4 months ago. Takes a lot to switch from caliper release to thumb. I like it, was hoping to love it. Not 100% sold on it. You really have to watch yourself when you draw back. It is easy to bump that thumb trigger and send the arrow flying before you get all the way back. I do think it helped me realize I was punching the trigger some with my caliper release. The other thing I dont like is not having the wrist strap, thats alot of weight to pull back with your hand, maybe I am just not used to it yet, but you definitely notice not having a wrist strap on when you start shooting with it. I would probably go with the Carter's. THere is no doubt they are built well. Hopefully I will get used to using it soon. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I have the Hot Shot Tempest and a Carter Attraction. Both are great releases.

The Hotshot fits and feels better in my hand.

With the Attraction I can use it as a thumb release or a resistance release. I use it as a resistance release because I had problems pulling into the back wall constistantly. This release tightened my groups up about as much as going from an index release to a thumb release.

You can order or make a wrist release for most of the thumb releases.

I bought a True-fire Edge thumb release and have to say I enjoy using a thumb release a ton better than my old wrist release. It does take getting used to but I feel I holder steadier and can group better with it.

I have used the TRU Ball Pro Diamond for the last two years. The reason I changed was to eliminate having a release flopping around on my wrist while sitting on stand. I just clip it on my nock loop and forget it till it's time to draw. You do have to be careful not to hit the trigger and should always carry a backup release in case it gets dropped.
