You may want to try one first? I tried a 3 finger Tru-fire a friend loaned me and thought I would really like the change, obvious advantages in the field hunting with them. I was bad wrong. I could not get a good release without flinching. I went back to my Scott Samurai wrist release. It's just like a good trigger on a fine rifle and it just comes natural to me being a rifle shooter anyway.
I recommend trying one first also before making your decision, but I by all means do not have big hands and my Carter fits me perfectly and shoots comfortably.
Thanks for input. I have been a rifle shooter for 20 years, so the wrist releases do feel second nature. I would definitely want to try one, but all I have is a box store that carries the cheap o's and the archery shop doesn't carry carter, only two target Stanley's.
Yea def try one, especially since your a rifle shooter and the trigger style wrist release feels so comfortable to you. I shoot mine using back tension to trigger it so it might not be something you will like. I "push and pull" until the release is triggered from the tension. I maybe would ask the shop by you to try one of the Stans as it is a great release also just to see if you like the concept and feel. Then can go from there. Good luck man!
I shot with a Hot Shot Vapor 3 for a few months this Spring...Great release comfortable in the hand...smooth and quiet on release. I think they make a nice hunting release. I sold mine when I was looking for a couple extra $$ and now regret it. I may get another one or may upgrade to a Stan SX3 or Shootoff 3 finger for next season
I probably will next year. I just bought an Scott Longhorn Hunter and I like it but I'm not going to switch until after the season. Like most guys I don't shoot enough during the season as it is to make a major change right now. I left my Silverhorn in the truck last weekend and had to shoot the front half of the course with my Longhorn and I didn't notice any adverse affect but hooking up the Silverhorn is second nature right now as opposed to getting the hinge set right.
Im thinking about making mine a hunting release, didn't practice much this summer with it and only shot a few targets in comp with it so its staying in the bag for now
I've hunted with a Scott hinge for a while now. I think this will be my 5th year. It's second nature to me because I shoot one from December-August for target and have done so exclusively since 2008. It's not for everyone but I can make a much better shot when needed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree, Its not something you should just switch over too and expect everything to be perfect and ready to hunt. I have a Tru Ball Pro Diamond Extreme 4 finger and is a fantastic release. (I don't even think you can get this one anymore) I think its very similar to the vapor that your using besides being a caliper head. I shoot with it every so often just so I know I can use it if I have too. I carry it in my pack as a backup just in case I do something stupid and drop my main release from the tree or it breaks etc. I shot with mine last night and i'm consistently about an inch low with the handheld though but not a major change.
