I purchased a thumb release today (tru ball pro diamond). I came home and used it. I can say I like several things about it. But my question is this, what real advantages is there to them versus wrist strap releases for hunting?

More solid anchor point and generally a better sear system.

Interested in learning about this as well. Never shot a thumb release yet but have been wondering if there is a advantage or just personal preference.

I love mine, I just have a Tru Ball T-Handle. I like the fact that it is always clipped to my loop and ready to go at any time. And its not strapped to your wrist making unwanted noise when rattling or getting in your bag.

Ok, so when I anchor, I lay the part of my hand behind my index finger across my jawbone or slightly to the rear (not going to go into shooting form when my desk is in the middle of the office, these people think i'm strange enough as it is).

So if I go to a thumb style release, i would have to turn my hand so that the top is resting across my jawbone instead of just the small portion behind my index finger. Is this correct? How do you guys do it?

Not trying to hijack your thread, more hoping this helps both of us out.

I will list the things I like about them so far. Remember I have only had it one day, but so far my reasons are:

It is always attached to the bow ready to use

I can reach in my pocket or bag easier without a strap attached to my arm

I don't worry about moving my arm and it hitting the stand and making noise

I feel that I can pull back the bow smoother and easier. Using my hand verses tention on the wrist.

Here is the big one. Right now I am covered in poison ivy and the wrist strap irritates the rash so I illiminated the strap. LOL very important right now.

I do like the anchor point better also and the smoothness of thumb release over trigger. I am sure this is a personal prefference but it is still a deciding factor for me.

    DISADVANTAGE:

I can see me dropping it because I'm a clutts.

Well I've decided to get one to try.

How about with heavy gloves on, like your picture Rob? Actually. I guess if you weren't wearing something around your wrist you wouldn't need heavy gloves huh, just keep them put up until you need them...

I made the switch a couple years ago and love it. Gave me a much more comfortable & solid anchor. I never liked the trigger position on the wrist slings. For me it was a smoother trigger release also.

I like not having it strapped to me at all times. I was always clanging it on something.

Tru-Fire. I take the big trigger wheel off though, I like the lower profile.

... plus I like this one because you can adjust the travel direction of the trigger (either pull back, or push forward. I like the latter).

Well it just so happens I'll be going by Cabelas this afternoon for work (ok, I'm traveling for work, but I've never been to Cabelas so it is a necessary stop), I'll see what they have.

Chris, when your at Cabelas check and see if they have the truball max pro 4. I tested this release awhile ago and I'm thinking about making the switch too. If I do this is the one I'm going to go with. It felt the best for me. Everyone is different though, but just take a look if you care too.
