I've been looking into a thumb release as of lately and I found a couple but I'm not sure what one would be best and it's hard to try them since the closest bow shop doesn't carry a bunch of them. The ones I'm interested in are the hot shot vapor, spot hogg saturday night special and whipped snapper or the scott exxus. I'm also open to other options as long as they're within the same price range as the ones I've listed.

Carter makes a high quality release and have a large selection of thumb releases.

What are the advantages of a thumb release compared to a wrist release?

For me it was simply repeatability and consistency for my anchor. I can lock the space between my index and middle finger into my jawline and find my spot on my nose much more consistently than I can with a wrist style/trigger release. I also find it helps teach and execute back tension much more easily than with a trigger release.

I've been shooting a Truball St-3 for quite a few years. Very happy with it. Releases are very person specific though so it's a good idea to try a few out if possible.

I've narrowed it down to the hot shot vapor and the spot hogg saturday night special. Which one do you guys recommend?

Shane just make sure the release is silent.

I've never shot the Spot Hogg but really like my Hot Shot Vapor.

Shoot both and decide. Most shops will let you test shoot one. I spent thousands of dollars on releases to find out which ones fit me best. Both Spot Hogg and Hot Shot have quality internals, you should decide based on which one fits your hand best.

I have a matching pair of Carter Just Cuz's for all target related shooting, and hunt with T.R.U. Ball ST3 with the detachable wrist strap.

I just saw your review of the st3 on hunting net. I think I'll look into them a little.

I shoot a just b cuz as well and love it. I owned a Saturday night special. Very good trigger for the price but it's way small. Unless you have really small hands it will be uncomfortable

My hands are long but they're not really that big if that makes any sense. I'll try to shoot some different ones some time just to see what's comfortable for me.

My hand is 8 inches from base of palm to tip of middle finger and 4 inches wide and it's way to small just to give you some reference

Thanks. My hand is the same size so I guess I can cross that one off the list.

Yeah it would be pretty uncomfortable. The vapor is my favorite thumb release less than $100.

What are the differences between the stan shoot off, shoot off blackout and sx3? If I like the feel of a thumb release I might look at one of those in the future.

I switched this past year. Tried several in the price range you stated. For me the Hot Shot Vapor was the choice. Very quiet and a crisp release.

Thought the blackout shootoff was just a black version of the shootoff. And the sx3 is less swept back than the shootoff and has the trainer pin.
