Are you going to start throwing your poo out the car window?

    They're not.

I think I am safe on third actually. Littering does in fact affect all of us. You or I going 1mph over with nobody else around, does not. That's my point. Littering has a lasting, negative impact on the environment and is disrespectful. Going 1mph over, does not. Big difference, not a comparison at all.

Look around, cigarette butts are everywhere. I dont mind if someone wants to have a dirty habit, but I should have a choice of whether or not I want to be exposed to it. I should not have to find the byproduct in my lawn, on my sidewalk, and in every parking lot I walk through. Hooker likes to drink beer, but I doubt that he pisses in the parking lot or on the neighbors lawn. (might be sticking my neck out a little bit here...) If he did, it would be considered quite inconsiderate. And if he does, he will definitely get a ticket if caught.

There are many, many victims that suffer from the crimes of prostitution, drug use, and gambling. To call any of those crimes victimless, is to ignore the facts. Show me a victim of the crime of going 1mph over the limit. We are all victims of littering.

I think it has become so common for smokers to be disrespectful with their garbage that most people are tired of it. Enforcing a simple law might make them think twice about their selfish behavior.

Just about everything you've said here is completely subjective to your opinion. You want to enforce laws based on your personal opinion of why they should or shouldn't be enforced, not because of the fact that they're laws. This is where my issue lays.

And let's be honest here, as much as we all hate people tossing their cig butts out their window what impact has that directly had on your life or the life of anyone you know? Other than possibly an annoyance if you find them on your property, they're not really causing any harm. Much like going 1 mph over the speed limit. I know my life has never personally been impacted by it.

As for victimless crimes, how about these situations. A guy and 5 of his buddies get together in his basement for a poker night. They are playing for cash, which is illegal gambling. After the game is over one of the guys goes home and smokes a joint on his back porch, then watches some TV and goes to bed. Also illegal. Another guy leaves and stops at the local rub-n-tug on the way home for some relief. He pays for services rendered and also goes home. Again, another crime. Best as I can tell, nobody was hurt in any of those scenarios. Should all of those people be arrested and/or ticketed? After all, nobody was hurt. Nobody's lives were affected.

Brett, I've never stopped someone based on just a cig butt hitting the ground, but I did use it for PC last week to stop a guy who was acting erratically.... one of those "instinctive" moments. He was inside the same building/complex that houses our HQ, Homeland Sec., Investigative Unit, etc... turned out the guy was on parole, had a crack pipe, a sifnificant amount of heroin and TWO good warrants!! lol...

So even if you're on the fence about a littering citiation... use that PC whenever you get that feeling in your gut!

First of all.....that is some hilarious stuff right there! You seriously made me laugh out loud. I mean really....."rub-n-tug", I nearly filtered my beer through my nose. Good stuff, thanks for that.

Now, the cig butts kind of do affect me. My wife and I own businesses where we end up having to pick up the butts from our sidewalks, flower pots, window ledges, etc. It is a pain. I wont even leave a shotgun hull in the field. I can not imaging putting out a cigarette on the side of someones building and leaving the butt on their window ledge. But, it happens and it is a complete and total lack of respect for the property owner. That is where I see the major difference and that is the negative impact it has on my life and the life of many other property owners. Ever volunteer with a scouting troop or other group to help clean up a roadside park or road ditches? If so, you know what I am talking about. Those butts lay around for many years and it all adds up. I want the law enforced based on the fact that it is littering, period.

Gambling has its victims, but no, a basement poker game does not affect me. The rub-n-tug might be run by some pimp that is forcing young ladies to work for the crack that he has them hooked on. So, I guess that makes the drugs and prostitution both a little bit sketchy. Neither are my thing, so I guess I shouldnt speak to that.

I just think that most smokers have gotten extremely lazy and disrespectful. It has become acceptable for them to throw their trash anywhere they see fit. Really??? If writing a few tickets for littering would cut down on the number of cigarette butts laying around, I am all for it. I say, "book 'em Danno."

By the way, I do see where you are coming from. But, in no way am I saying that the tickets should be written just because I dont like smoking. I simply dont like littering of any kind.

I am not a very good DUI guy, but for whatever reason people around here have been driving drunk like crazy lately. I have gotten about 5-6 DUI's in the last month. Several of them blew between .15-.20!

It is really disrespectful however i never did it but the most annoying thing is that i encounter a wrong parking and they give me a ticket. In Finland country parking is really friendly to them because of the fact that they have a lot of yksityinen pysäköinnin valvonta or private parking and because of it case of illegal parking is been really low in a year.
