Throwing cigarettes out car window---littering? Deserving of a littering ticket?

I hear you Justin and your post is kind of why I asked you guys the question. I like to maintain and create a healthy relationship between myself and the citizens I am sworn to protect, unless the situation won't allow it.

I appreciate the feedback guys and that is why I posted.

 

Obviously... you're an evil person with lots of flaws. You have a fear of law inforcement. If you hadn't gone down this road of crime you wouldn't be nervous when some law dog looked your way. LOL If you haven't done anything wrong... it will work out most of the time..... but... if I saw you slow down, look away, wave for no reason... damn straight... I'd lock your butt up. LOL

 

3 years ago when I flicked the cherry out the window, a state trooper gave me a ticket for $250.00+ for littering. I told him what happened and showed him the butt, yet he still called me a liar. I took it court (with the cigarette butt in hand) and the judge found for the state (imagine that). If someone throws a butt out the window it is littering. A cherry, I don't think so.

 

If your going to do it for cigarettes then gum chewers who spit it out the window should get it too..and now the vicious circle has begun and the list goes on and on.

 

When I was in ND, I used to duck whenever border patrol drove by. They never stopped me.

I also used to never* put my plate sticker on my plates until a cop stopped me and told me to do it. Where I lived, there was real crime to deal with so the cops didn't stop you for such things. But when I drove out of the 'hood and to nicer nieghborhoods... eventually I'd get pulled over for it. It was kind of a game for me. Besides speeding on highways, it was the only cop-provoking thing I did.

When I 'worked' at the office with JZ and Graf... I immediately got pulled over by a Huntley cop for the expired sticker. It was windy and pouring rain... I almost felt bad for him. heh heh heh.

I would be amazed to see a cop issue a ticket for tossing a cigarette butt... but I wouldn't think they were a jerk if they did.

*This year is the first time I ever put my sticker on within 3 months of getting it. Last year I didn't even put it on at all.

 

Going to sound stupid asking, but are we talking about an actual cherry? If so I don't get how a cigarette butt fits in

 

The cherry is the ignited part of the cigarette that burns bright red.

 

Damn I'm getting old... I had no idea. I thought cherry was a thing that grew in a tree.

 

I can understand your dilemma....but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if you did Brett. I can't stand it when I see folks do that and imo, it is littering for sure.

In my personal opinion there are better, bigger, more important things to focus on...like Drug dealers, DUI's, theft. I think it's a little too picky...but again that is me...lol. I don't smoke...I think it would be a waste of time. I have nothing against cops...my best friend is is a State Trooper and have another who is a city cop.

To heck with them, they are driving up my healthcare cost. You could be saving lives by ticketing them. They cannot afford their cigs

 

Interesting perspective. I lost both my grandparents at age 7 due to smoking.....maybe you are on to something Gary.

Too much, all insurance rates go up because of smokers.

Just like insurance rates go up because of bad drivers.

If I was insurance company I would not allow smokers on my policy. In fact a lot of companies now will not hire smokers, why ? Because they cost them too much money carry on the company policy.

 

So I did a little experiment. Went to Wal-Mart, parked pretty close to the front. As I walked, I counted the number of cigarette butts that were in my path to the front door. Not everyone I could see, just the ones I could basically step on as I walked. I counted 9. Now as you get to the door, Wal-Mart is so kind as to offer you a nice little smokers post that you can put your butts in. Besides the 9, there were probably about 10 or more butts just laying around the base of the smokers post. To me, it just shows how lazy and disrespectful people are. They are given every opportunity to do the right thing, yet they choose not to. They could use to learn a lesson or two in my opinion.

 

I hate when people do this. Almost as much as all the beer cans I find along the FS rds by my cabin in WI.

 

Tell them they can get a ticket or go pick up the butt. Their choice, they should be able to find a butt if bot tell em to pick up some other trash.

 

I hate when people do this. Its no different than throwing a pop can, beer can, fast food wrapper, etc... out the window. Littering is disgusting and I do not enjoy looking at other peoples trash. I say ticket them.
