Leaving in a few minutes to head to PA for 3 days in the turkey woods. Playing a little hooky tomorrow morning, will have to field some emails from the blind and will definitely have to work from the cabin in the afternoon, but at least I'll get out in the morning........

Plans are to hunt tomorrow morning at my camp. On Saturday Rob's going to come up and I think we are going to try and film my Dad shoot one. Saturday afternoon, I'll probably hop in the truck, and head up to Dan's camp in NY so that we can get after the NY birds on Sunday together. Should be a great time, I can't wait!

If it's gonna rain like I think it will tomorrow, I'll camp out in the blind over some decoys and bring the Allegiance. Not sure if I'll bring the gun/bow for the rest of the hunts, we will have to play it by ear and see if I feel like sitting in a blind, or running and gunning. I'll update from the blind if I or if Rob or my Dad are able to put one down.

Good luck, Matt! I was sitting in my Double Bull yesterday morning at sunup holding my IceMan ... of course, I had the usual results when I go turkey hunting. Never heard a gobble, never saw a bird.

Well, other than the hen we almost stepped on sitting on her nest which exploded into flight in my buddy's face! :d He moved pretty quick for a white boy in the woods at dark! :d :d

Thanks guys. Weather was alright this morning, so I decided to run and gun on a neighbors property. Managed to get on a pair of toms early, and called them a good 400 yards. They came to around 70 yards and stood there looking at the dekes, and then skirted me...................never to be seen again. I'll update tomorrow, hopefully we have better luck then.

Wow these birds are kicking my butt this year. I'm probably spoiled rotten on good bird hunting, but I haven't hunted 3x days straight without tagging a bird in probably 10 years.

Friday morning, I got into them pretty thick, and called a double in to about 70 yards, where they locked up and stopped gobbling, stared at the dekes and then picked their way off never to be seen again.

Saturday Rob came up and we were on birds all day long, but unfortunately every gobbler we ran into (literally 10+ seperate birds responding to us) had hens and would talk, but no dice. We actually would call the hens to us about halfway in, then the hens would disappear.....taking the gobblers with them. We did call a pair of hens in so one was about 20 yards, and another was about 20 feet. I also nearly got a poke at a coyote, but we were on birds at the time and I was hesitant to ruin our turkey hunt over a 40ish yard shot at the yote. I think we literally heard a bird about every half hour, from the roost to 12noon, but no cigar.

Saturday afternoon I headed up to NY to hunt with Dan on Sunday. We got in a bit late, and had them pegged on the roost and got within 150 yards or so. There were a good 4 birds roosted in the same area, they had hens with them too though, and flew down the opposite direction to follow their girls and were never to be seen again...........:bash:

And to top it all off, Saturday evening up in NY I missed not one but two groundhogs. One was about 225 yards, the other was about 370. Must have been the wind.........lol.... :d

I think the birds in PA and NY are acting like they normally would about a week before season opens. I bet in another week or two, when most of these hens are bred and nesting, the hunting is going to get really good. I'm headed to a wedding this Saturday, and then Mothers day on Sunday, so this weekend is shot, but I'll be back after them the following weekend.

I have yet to hear a gobble in decent range this year. Like you said Matt, it's gonna get better. I have hens running all over the property, they gotta get bred sometime. Good luck bud.
