So the wife and I have been talking about moving out of NY. Kentucky was common ground for both of us. Can anyone that hunts in that state chime in. I wanna know everything I can. What's it like for weather, hunting, taxes. What do you love what do you hate. In Venatione Veritas
LC hunts KY and may be able to opine on weather. I know they also have a guntalk.com elk herd. And that's about all I can offer much specific to KY. TN would also be a state I'd consider, strictly from a taxes perspective.
let me look back through a bunch of old emails. A guy used to be active on here quite a bit was really helpful and sent me a bunch of info a few years back. I'll PM you when I find them. It's a great state to hunt, I can tell you that. Tons of public land and generous tags. Weather is mild compared to NY, that's for sure. When I lived in southern Indiana, it would be warm through late November, usually get one or two good snows in late December, be cold in January, then by mid-Feb temps would start to rise and you could be riding a motorcycle by March. I imagine KY is similar or even a bit milder.
My family has a farm about 30 miles from Paducah KY. I have yet to hunt it but its on my list of to-do’s. I spoke with a guy at a cycle shop while purchasing a 4 wheeler and he told me Clarks river and Pennyrile were two good areas. They are in the western part of the state, which is where the deer tend to be bigger. The area around Pennyrile which is east of Kentucky and Barkley Lake has the most big buck kills in the State from what ive read. So those were the two places me and my buddies were going to hit if we did make a trip to hunt. As far as living there goes you have to do the research. Im not sure.
