http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_bi_ge/as_japan_earthquake The Japanese government is telling people to stay calm and to simply stay indoors within a 20 mile radius. They evacuated everyone within 12 miles. But something tells me they know this is going to be worse than they say. When they evacuate all but 70 workers, what does that tell you? How can 70 people do what 800 hundred should be doing? The answer is they can't. They already have 190 workers exposed to elevated levels of radiation. As bad as the earthquake and tsunami damage is, they better hope they can prevent a complete meltdown. Scary stuff over there.
You know those 70 better have all their affairs in order. How would you like to be included in that hand picked group.
Are friends parents live about 70 miles from there and i can only hope for the best, We tried to talk them into getting on a plane yesterday but no luck they dont want to leave there home as they are elderly couple, Looks like it is going to be another 3 mile island deal, and i am sure the government is scared as it should.
Here is the best explination of what is happening I've seen. http://mitnse.com/2011/03/13/why-i-am-not-worried-about-japans-nuclear-reactors/
Man, if I was 20miles, I would get my family and walk 20 more miles. Then I would beg and panhandle another 20 more miles. I know for a fact, I can walk 10 miles or more a day. I would hiking my way well out of range.
I'm going to wait and see and ignore the fear-mongering that the media is so gleefully wallowing in. After all the crap that plant went through.. like every worst-case problem possible, it makes me feel better about nuclear power plants. They really have the things pretty well engineered and they'll be able to make even safer ones after learning from this catastrophe.
I doubt it will be worse than Chernobyl, which I read a fascinating article on the other day concerning how it is the largest wildlife preserve in Europe now. New species are being discovered constantly due to rapid evolution of all the genetic mutations.
Ummmmmm.. Not a good sign at all. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AS_JAPAN_EARTHQUAKE?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
