Well I've had the bow for a few days now and so far I'm very happy with it. Out of the box the fit and finish are great. Machining and painting are flawless. I got the bow set up with all of the accessories I had on the Marquis and started shooting after figuring out how to get my LimbDriver to work. The button that attaches the string to the upper limb doesn't fit the Primal so I tied it to the limb as shown in one of the pics. Shooting the bow is quite different than what I'm used to. The draw cycle is very linear. A smooth steady pull to a short valley and a rock solid back wall. Not like the single cam draw I've gotten used to. I was pleasantly suprised at how steady this bow holds at full draw. I'm shooting this bow better in a couple of days than I shot my previous bow after 2 years. I attribute that to the generous brace hieght. The bow is considerably faster than what I'm used to and is very quiet with no hand shock. I did have to adjust the string stop to stop a bit of a buzz. I set it a matchbook cover off the string and the buzz was gone. The string stopped moving after about 40 shots so I got my 3/16s Metapeep and blue string loop set on the Metraeo string and started getting it dialed in. I got my 20-30-40-and 50 yard pins dialed in and still have to work on the 60. I ran out of time over the weekend. I also screwed in some of my new G5 Montec BH's. This bow shoots my Beman MFX 340s with a 125gr head very well. The Montec's flew right with my FPs. The draw weight is 62 lbs at 29". here are a few pics. And here is how I tied my LD in. I hope to be able to feed the Primal this evening. I'm going after pigs again after work. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
Thanks for the write-up. It might be good too edit in the draw weight and your draw length so there's a reference against your arrow info for folks trying to find a proper arrow match. I find it amazing how much the Quest and Elite bows look alike. I can't help but think there's going to be some litigation if there hasn't been already.
I went and edited. DL and DW added. I instructed a bowhunter ed class at a pro shop over the weekend. That shop owner said, " Its a Ross riser and Elite Z28 cams, I doubt they will be around long." So you aren't the only one thinking that way. Of course now that I own one I want them to stick around!
G5 was the original company that built the Ross line. They won the patent in court from Andy Ross not too long ago IIRC. There are alot fo cams anymore that are really closely resembling the competition. The primals, Z28's, 82nd Airborne, and even the athens bows all look alike. Great write-up by the way!
If it does have a cam similar to the Z28 that explains the draw cycle that you described. I know exactly what you mean and to my way of thinking it's a perfect hunting bow draw cycle; smooth yet rock solid with plenty of stored energy to get the job done. I hadn't noticed it before but that cable guard is real interesting. I really like the fact that they didn't spare any expense in the the strings and cables like a few of the manufacturers are doing these days, Metraeo strings are top notch quality.
Very sweet setup! I've been wanting to shoot one, but I'm afraid I might like it. I don't think the wife would want that!:D Congrats on really nice bow. I think I saw one of these with skull camo?
It's as beautiful a bow as I knew it would be, Greg... hope she brings you lots of good luck and memories.
How are the ceramic disks in the cable rod treating the cables? Just wondered if they tear them up at all.
