As much as I'm on the road (cycling/running), I picked up one of these just recently.

As much as I know you guys are in the woods....and as much as we all know things can happen.....I thought of you (all of you). If you don't go this route, at least carry something that will identify you to others, AND a way for them to know who to call (in the case of an emergency). We owe 'em that! I have my wife's cell phone; our home phone and "no known allergies" on mine.

I have no ties to this co.. I just think it's a great idea.

Perhaps it's not as good as this but I have one of my dog's ID tags on my key chain. It has phone numbers to me (LOL not much good in this case) the house and my wife. Plus I would have my phone with me also and they could go into the contacts and start calling. I have thought about a scenario where I am incapacitated and that was what I came up with, the dog tag and the phone.

I thought of the phone, too, Bruce. I carry one in my jersey pocket when I ride. But, when I run, I don't carry it.

Even still, I don't know how they'd know my wife's number from any other "contact" in there (of course....one contact does say "mom").

It's just a thought. But, do something. The dog ID tag is a great idea. I think you can get them stamped at PetSmart for a few bucks. Nothing stopping you from putting exactly what you want on it (personal info. in lieu of dog info).

I suspect someone else has been watching the Tour de France other than me as they have been advertising them quite heavily.

Good for you for getting one. Me and my son, who also rides, keep talking about getting them but haven't yet.

I lost a brother-in-law about 7 years ago by being hit by a car while running. He did have his phone and that was how they located my sister but that wasn't the best way to find out her husband had just been killed. Not that there is a good way, but getting a call by a deputy sherriff from your husband's phone and asking who they are talking to and where they are located, etc.etc., she knew what had happened before they ever showed up at the house.

On another note to emphasize the need for being prepared for the worst, we had a cyclist get run over and killed this past week on a rural road. She was with a group so the ID was not an issue, but I mention it for those of us who are out on the roads trying to get in shape, to stay aware of your surroundings and exercise a little paranoia when out on the road.

Guilty. I've taped each stage. And, I haven't missed a second of it. Not my favorite outcome (so far). But, I learned a lot (1st time watching the tdf).

I actually just saw this in a magazine and was thinking of just laminating an index card with my info on it & carrying it when I run. Somce cell phones have an "ICE" entry that EMT's will look for. (in case of emergency) Mine doesn't so I put those letters after my girlfriends name.

thats a great idea, sometimes I think we all get caught up with a bunch of stuff going on that we tend to forget the little things that should be the most important. It's good to be reminded of these things especially something like this.

cant remember where i heard this from but you are to put the contact "ICE" in your phone... officers and medical personnel are trained to look for this on a person's phone who cannot respond
    I - in
    C - case
    E - of (emergency)

side note i always wear a different t-shirt on my drive to my hunting spots, take it off and leave it in the back of my pick-up. in case i was ever missing or lost at least they would have something with my scent on it for the dogs, i know im crazy =-)

    Rybo and Isaiah,

The "ICE" thing Is exactly what I do with my cell phone. Jeff, no one can ever be too careful so I say good Idea with this thing you speak of.

I live In Minnesota and In years pass I've done a lot of elk hunting by myself 17 hours away In Montana. My brother has brought up the Idea a few times to me to get a satellite phone or whatever It's called. It's probably a good Idea.

That's the issue with the phone. You'd have to have coverage, or you're SOL.
