So I've come across a possible opportunity to sell my cabin in PA. I would still have the land, but may have the chance to cash out of the building itself. I've wanted to get a smallish (20' or so) camper for quite a while, simply because of the ability to have a stove, fridge, bathroom, and shower all inclusive, I still don't have a bathroom in my cabin and have to shower at our family's vacation house just up the road before heading into the woods. Add in the ability to tow is anywhere and be more mobile with my hunting, and now it becomes MUCH more attractive to have a camper instead of my cabin. I have an awesome truck for towing as well, with a 9,500lb towing capacity......I might as well use it right? :d What kind of camper do you have for hunting/vacation trips? Can you show pictures? Not to be nosy, but I'd love to know what you spent so I have an idea of the sort of deals I should be holding out for? Thanks!!
Mine's for sale!!! Though it may be a little bigger than you want.....but its a steal! :d http://eauclaire.craigslist.org/rvs/1206107620.html
Burnie needs that for his place!Last time I went I drank too much beer and the commute in early morning about killed me!:d
Matt, what kind of traveling would you do with the camper? What kind of distance? Would you mainly be leaving it on your land and making one or two trips a year or are you looking to run back and forth from home to camp? Just you? What's the max number of hunters your are looking to hunt with? Lots of campers sleep 6 or 8 but could only comfortably house 3 or 4. EDIT: Oh and Matt, it's a buyers market to begin with, but if you can hold out until the end of the summer you should be able to clean up. PM me if ya need to I can check out somethings at the dealer down here. Let me know what kinda budget you are working on.
Did anyone see Rock of Love Bus? That's what it's like inside this camper when you go hunting with Dan.
Ben: The camper would stay at my camp in PA from September to June I'm guessing, but would need to be capable of going towed back and forth between home (Albany, NY) and camp (Bradford County) several times a summer. I would want something capable of being towed 500+ miles incase I decide to head out to Ohio as well. I want something that will comfortably sleep 4 people, and other than that my main requirements are a stove, fridge, and bathroom w/ shower. I would prefer something around 20', or slightly smaller and under 5k lbs, that I don't need a 5th wheel hitch for. Budget is going to be around $3k, preferable $2-2.5k. I'm lucky, the area I live in has TONS of campers available up here due to the adirondack lakes, and they do all go down in price. I'm hoping to buy between August and September, I know there are some great deals to be had that time of year.
This one is a perfect example of what I'm looking for. I'd love to find something like this discounted down to $2000-$2500 at the end of the summer. http://albany.craigslist.org/rvs/1207239566.html
I just picked up a 1970 Imperial 24' to park on my property. Has everything you named and a microwave. Runs off 12 or 120volt. Fridge is electric or propane. Great condition for the age. I paid $2400 for it. It only has 2 single beds right now, but I am looking for a futon to put in it to add to the bed number.
That's a hell of a palace. The only problem with one that big is you can never tell when the camper is rockin.:d
RJ, I know what you mean. We (my wife, my friends) are river lotters so there is no shortage of campers for sale. I will keep my eye out.
I had a Jayco 30' camper. I tried to buy one used but all the used ones were quite abused. I ended buying a new 'show' model. They knocked $3K off the $14K price because of it. It was about 5500 lbs. It was a great thing at the time. It was a nifty (tho' slightly crowded) hunting camp and when it was in my driveway I had various boyfriends stay in it. (hahahhahahaaha. Not really... but I did have friends stay over in it.) It did kill my '77 scout. So I had to buy my chevy to haul it around. Definitely get the anti sway bars for towing it. If you want to have four people in a 20', you need to have a place outside for your gear. Otherwise you'll be tripping over each other and your stuff. If you're camping in sub zero temps, bring lots of rv anti-freeze for the toilet. It's quite interesting trying to clear a frozen turd ball from the rv toilet tank.
Concur. 20' is going to be mighty cozy with 4 people. I have a 27' Jayco Jayflight and it would be really tight for four hunters and their gear. You could arrange for an equipment tent or awning. Definitely want an awning.
Matt, I'll miss that little cabin but I can see where your going with this. Best of luck and I'll keep my eye out as well. The listing your provided is deleted.
We're probably about to pull the trigger on a 28' Puma travel trailer in a couple months; it's parked right around the corner in my subdivision, and has only been used about 10 times. Slideout, with queen on one end and double bunk beds on the opposite side. Everyone keeps trying to talk me into a fifth wheel, but I want a travel trailer so I can put a four-wheeler in the bed of the truck for when I go out to Colorado after elk. It's fun looking at campers/trailers, Matt; I wish you the best in your search, and can't wait to see what you find!
Ben/Rob: Keep your eyes peeled. I sold the cabin yesterday. I still have the property, but sold the building itself. I have mixed feelings about selling the cabin, it was a really cool hunting camp.........but it was a good deal for me and I couldn't turn down the $$$. I'll put some into another camper, and put the rest into our house. If I'm not in a camper before bowseason, we can always stay up the road at the family vacation house. Right now I'm looking for something with a shower that can sleep 3+ people (preferably 4), and not a 5th wheel. Also, since I'm putting some of the $$$ into our house, I think I'm going to pocket some of the $$$ and try to stay in the $1000-$1500 range on a camper. I've got a few 1980's campers in the 18-24' range in this price range that need minor work close to me here, but always looking for a bargain and would be OK with driving into PA to find one. Let me know if you guys see anything your way that looks decent. I dont' mind a little bit of water damage, I will likely turn this into my winter project so as long as I can tow it home immediately, and if it's fixable (not in terrible shape) I'm interested. Buckeye - I wanna see pics of your camper!!
