I will drive probably 10,000 miles, scouting my ass off and burning up at least a couple hundred C-Batteries. I'll dial in on some hammerheads, and hopefully, I'll get to check one in at some point. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow will hopefully be another 140+. I actually have high hopes for Pennsylvania this year. I'm all over a pretty good buck, and if he doesn't get poached or run over, I have a legitimate chance on 10/1. My advice to all of you: Buy stock in BP and Rayovac.
Although I've killed some does I haven't taken a buck for three seasons. Had some opportunities at bucks in that time, just not one I wanted to take. Sometimes I think my trailcams are ruining it for me. I get these great bucks on the cams and then I start holding out for them. My son-in-law did manage to take one of those good bucks I had on cam last year.......two days after it was coming right to me until my stand made a slight squeek and he turned and went the other direction. Now having said that, to me a trophy is a trophy for different reasons. It doesn't have to be the biggest rack out there. It may just be a buck that is unique or one that I have alot of history with. So my goal is to take a buck that is a trophy for my own personal reasons. Blessings......Pastorjim
My expectations are to chase the big surprise (at least get some footage of him). I attached a photo of his sheds. The neighbor found them and put them on a fake skull. This deer is a beast! Next year ... who knows? Secondly I would like to film Grant Jacobs breaking his 3 year drought of shooting a deer!
2010 season was my first season ever. I tagged a doe and a buck. I hunted all season. I didn't harvest one with a bow. I thought it was pretty good for a first season and not having anyone to help me. I did it all on my own with little to no help from anyone or anything except internet and magazines. My goal for 2011 is to tag out which is 6 before having to purchase more doe only tags. I want to take at least 4 with bow at least more if I can and maybe a couple with my 12 gage slug again. To accomplish this I have created a food plot, a watering hole, a mineral plot and have plans for a few more things. I have also been practicing for that oh so important moment. I try too shoot 200-500 arrows a week. Shooting at different distances and at a 3D whitetail target. I have been shooting from a stand and the ground and trying to get my bow dialed in completely. I have also been tracking and have still not picked out my stand locations because I am trying to gather more information and decide on the most traveled trails to hunt. I am focusing more on does this season and maybe even next season. I would like to see more mature bucks and getting our buck to doe ratio back down to what it should be. Those are just some of my goals and expectations for the 2011 season.
I've done all the killing one man should do in a lifetime. I'm focusing on passing on what I've learned and perhaps take one of the two 200" bucks I have located.
Going to be a different year meaning I won't be hunting a particular buck I've hunted for 2 years In a row. I have no Idea what to expect this year. A few nice young bucks (2.5's and 3.5's) were shot In the neighborhood so It could be a down year or a lack of mature bucks this year (just like old times). Looking forward to the season though!
No real specific expectations. I might get to hunt a little more during the rut than I have the past several years so that's good. Probably the biggest change is that I plan to shoot less does with my bow, because I just have too much fun shooting them with pistols in gun season.
my expectations for this year is to get our foodplots in and take at least 2 deer with my new bow on camera and get my dad 2 on camera. he hasnt got a deer for 4 years but i have had at least one for the past 5. i also plan to hunt aot of public land for the simple fact that 20 acres can only be hunted so much in one year with two people. leave it for my dad more than me
I'm hoping to put 2 good seasons together in a row. I'm already running trail cams this spring and I plan on continuing to do it throughout the summer and fall. I've never done this in the past, so I'm hoping this will pay off. I got my main piece leased up, so I'll have it to myself. I did get a new job, I'll be working 3 on 3 off 12's. So I'm hoping those 3 off consistently throughout the season will pay off as well. I'm not supposed to take any vacation time in Nov., but I'm hoping maybe I can sneak a few days off to put together some long hunts. I missed a solid 135" buck last year, and that still burns me.
I have 2 bucks in particular that I hope and pray I kill at least one of them. I am very excited about getting 2 weeks added back to my archery season here in Idaho.. an early week during velvet and then an additional late week up to Christmas. I have some great stand site areas that I hung last year, all new areas to me and after what I experienced last season, I can not wait until this season. I have some adjustments to make on about 10 stands; some very slight changes, some include a good move. My goal as always is to kill an old buck with my bow, hopefully 2!
I just hope to score on a 130 or better this year. I WONT let what I did last season happen again and shoot something i was not happy with.
Besides the not being eatin' by mountain lions thing.. I don't know yet. But I'll let you know as soon as I find him.
I will scout this summer. Hopefully find a couple good bucks. Then try to kill one of them this fall. Same old... same old... which never gets old. Love it !!! :D Tim
Looks like I'll be hunting some new private land properties this season as well, you can never go wrong with getting as many properties as you can. You never know when you can lose them!
Im ready to get in the stand and have fun. Id also love to take a mature buck. Ive put in some time this spring and I think it'll pay off.
