Was a pretty cool day. Was in stand with my 14yr old Saturday. Had gump come say hello, & walk literally right under us.... He hung out for a good 30 minutes....then he got "alarmed" at the sound of a couple other deer coming in. He perked up, & started stomping his front hoofs on the ground, all while staying very focused where you could see two other bucks coming in. They were still in the woods so, couldn't get a good pic of em. Then you could hear one of them stomping their hoofs, & making a "weezing" sound, almost like an exhasperation. Was really getting intense...lol. Heard some antlers hitting, a few more weezes....a few more stomps by Gump, & then a squirrel come running through the area, spooking Gump & the other buck/s. Was an amazing 30-40 minutes to say the least. We (my two boys & I ) have decided so far....not to harvest Gump. At least not yet. We want to give him another year or two to develop & see what his rack will look like next year. There appears to be some other bucks around anyways. Bow season opens next Saturday here. Im anticipating at least a Doe. I'll have two boys itching for one. Cooked up the last of our venison from last year this weekend So, it's definitely time Im not sure who is more excited, them or me. Im going to sit next sat morning with my 16yr old. Hoping to vid his first bow kill. wish us luck
This pic was taken saturday while we were in the stand, right before he walked under us, & I snapped the pic above with my cell phone.
