First off, its worth mentioning that in my area residents voted down a proposed opening of state / county parks to bow hunting. You can't use a firearm in my county at all. A few vocal residents were "fearful" of hunters in our county parks. After reading the below, I'd be too. BTW, crossbows are illegal to hunt with in my county as well.... RAMAPO - Police on Monday identified two men accused of firing a crossbow from a car, sending a bolt through a deer and into the wall of a nearby home. Police identified Lee Jones, 47, of Suffern and Abraham Fischbein, 43, of Greene, N.Y., as the suspects. They are accused of shooting an arrow, or bolt, into the woods near West Carlton and College roads about 7 p.m. Sunday, police said. The bolt, after going through the deer, lodged about 18 inches below a picture window of a nearby house. The deer ran about 75 yards after it was hit, collapsed and died. The men drove off, but returned about 20 minutes later and were confronted by two other men who witnessed the shooting. Ramapo police said officers were summoned to the scene by Jones and Fischbein, who contacted authorities to avoid a fight with the two witnesses. They were charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony; and seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. The state Department of Environmental Conservation charged the men with a number of misdemeanors, including shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling, shooting across a public highway, taking a deer with an implement not specified, illegally taking protected wildlife, hunting deer during closed hours, taking deer with the aid of a motor vehicle and hunting without a big-game license. Jones also was charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal contempt. Kenneth Gribetz, Fischbein's defense attorney, said his client did not fire the crossbow and that prescription drugs police found in the car belonged to his wife. It was unclear who was representing Jones.
Some people... How did they figure on getting away with no one seeing/hearing them? Sounds like a pretty populated area
Not much can be said about those two, but Vito summed it up well. I will give credit to the journalist though. Usually when you read articles like this they try to refer to them as hunters. "the two hunters returned 20 minutes later". Drives me crazy when they do that.
I agree, that is better than usual reporting. Kudos to the writer for his impartiality and fair reporting. Unfortunatley the OP is correct, we all pay the price in the public eye for these idiot's actions.
