Totally suck. There's a heavy, misting rain falling with sustained 20 mph winds with gusts over 30. At least i'm dry and out of the wind in my blind. I'm notterribly hopeful this morning, but I'm in a spot these birds frequent with patternable regularity. So we'll see I guess.
Wind pulled all the stakes. Poked 3 holes in blind. Broke fibre on sight. 1 bird gobbling and getting closer.
Ok. Round 2. Went to the house. Fixed broken fibre optic. Downed chow. Grabbed more, and better tent stakes. Blind isn't moving at all now. Bow is fixed. Rain has stopped. And about 5 minutes after I got in the blind a Jake strolled by at about 40 , with no interest in my B-Mobile hen what so ever. But i've got 4 hours to sit in a feeding field in wet, windy conditions. I'm in the perfect set up. Now the you know who's gotta cooperate a little.
I went out on Sunday thinking there was no way that I was going to see any birds. Set up bling and put out my B-Mobile with 2 hens. Called in 6 birds and shot one only to not recover him. He ran off into the thick brush and after a couple of hours looking I never recovered him. I'm thinking about just sticking with the shotgun for turkey hunting. I feel terrible for not recovering anything I hit.
I compromised and went to the blackpowder double gun exclusively for this same reason. May even take it a step farther and go for a double flintlock.
My first bird was a perfect broadside wing shot. He wobbled down a hill and flew into the heavy brush. I got lucky and found him still alive. I chased him through the woods and shot him in a creek bed. I just think it isn't worth it. One shot to the head, I save the meat and don't have to worry about recovering him.
I've lost 2 archery birds with body shots, and a third one where the arrow hits right where the wing meets the body and deflects downward not even hitting the turkey, with video to prove it. I am DONE with body shooting turkeys, idc how good of a shot you are, talk to anyone who has done it long enough and odds are they have lost a bird....IMO, it isn't a matter of if it's a matter of when. I switched to using Bullheads for head shots with the bow or my shotgun only. I doubt I'll ever purposefully go after turkeys with my bow hoping for a body shot again. I'm excited to see how one of these bullheads perform, I sat up my sights as 1 pin to 15 yards, which will be my range limit with the heads. All I can say, is a bird is in some serious trouble if it makes it into that range.
I'll have to look up those Bullheads and possibly give it a try. Hopefully you'll be able to put one down and give it your approval rating.
