Wow! She definitely is making to most of her opportunities...good for her. But I kind of like that my first couple bucks were some 1.5 yr old stragglers...
That would have nothing to do with location. She obviously has years of experience watching and learning mature whitetails. I'm sure she has spent many an evening glassing deer from afar and learning where their bedding seasonally instead of playing with her Bratz dolls. Serioulsy, good for her. Congrats.
Some serious dedication from someone her age. Sounds like she puts in a ton of time in the offseason helping around the property. I'm sure her parents are proud.
This particular property her family owns is a testament to what good habitat improvement and management can do. The property was almost void of deer when they purchased it. The rewards they are experiencing now are the result of many years of hard work. My hat's off to them.
Invite her down and she'll kill the biggest deer in your woods also:p I was at a seminar she was at, she knew 95% of the answers to the questions
Im with Jeff on this what (to a point...) The success a "child"/"kid" has off there parents management/setups should be attributed "mostly" to the parents (in cases like this). The kid is a product of their environment. Its popular around here for the parent to do "everything" but pull the trigger. Doesnt take away from the deer, the accomplishment, the hunt, the reward, anything like that. But it doesn't make them (the kid) a Fred Bear legend either
Did you read the story at all? While I agree with Jeff also, this thread is about one kid, not kids If we focus on her story and the fact I know a lot of the facts. She pretty does it all on her own. I don't hold it against her she is hunting GREAT land, or her parents invested the time and money in their land. I don't care that guys in Iowa have an advantage over most or Ohio. I simple don't care, don't even make me bring up urban hunting:D That was a joke
I know what your saying Gary, And what IM saying is that "most" younger kids (13..below) dont REALLY know ANYTHING about hunting besides, i went out with mom/dad to her spot and shot the big buck that came by :D Congrats to the Mich. girl :D
Somebody has a rich mommy and daddy. That or they were fortunate to get a deal on smaller piece in a prime location (like against a sanctuary). It would be great to have enough land to manage like that. Anybody can do it if they can afford it. Then it only takes some hard work, time and some restraint. Good for her for getting those bucks and being lucky enough to have the parents she has. Hopefully she will love and stay hunting for the rest of her life. I hope she doesn't get spoiled by getting such nice bucks right away and lose interest if something happens and she has to hunt average land like most people do. Especially once she found out how much effort it would take. How much property do they have/manage?
Who cares if she picked the spot out or not....how many of you have ever spent the night in your stand to kill a big buck that next morning. I know I haven't. Congrats to her. Those are 3 awesome bucks that ANYONE would be proud to take.
