If wildlife photography is your priority and the weight of the equipment is not an overriding issue, that would be my recommendation. If a 2.8 aperture and 200mm fits your budget, that would be my 1st choice. You can later by a 2x teleconverter which in essence gives you a 5.6 aperture and a 400mm in focal length you can use when light is not an issue.

I found a book at Books-A-Million- Digital Photography for Dummies. I bought it, thinking the name was just for me. Goes into a lot of detail about different aspects of digital photography; has comparative photos showing how different settings and conditions influence a photo.
Yes, camera gear and Photography is crazy expensive. I will take a look at the book recommended...always looking to learn.
