I'm gonna keep this short, just thought I'd share some decent bucks with ya'll. I have 4 best friends that come to Illinois from Michigan every year for a week long state land hunt. My buddy's Dad came out on top with a 14 pt. pretty boy! My friend and I tagged teamed on the nine pt. shown. It was our first night, and we didn't get any good field shots. My other bud shot the 8 pt. I had an opportunity at a 150"+ at 29 yds. and didn't feel comfortable with the shot. He was quartered at me and I was hunting high enough I didn't feel I would be able to hit everything needed for a kill. It was basically Tood Graf's shot on Captain Hook, but more quartered. I kicked myself all week and then got home and watched that video and realized I made the right choice. Nice buck though, damn! Here's the first three deer. I had one day left to hunt last Friday. So, I got out of work third shift Friday morning, went home took a quick nap, got up, grabbed my gear and went. I hung a stand on some state land in a known run way. At last shooting light, this little guy was the unlucky participant. I really didn't want to take him, but I passed way too many deer up this year. I'm a hunter/killer/eater and it's late season. My bro-inlaw hunts MO, and he whacked this stud! Not too shabby. All in all not a bad season for us! I hunted a monster hard all year and it didn't work out for me. It's all good though, the freezer is full, we stayed safe, and some good bucks hit the dirt.
Looks like there was tons of success this season and some real bruisers too! Meat in the freezer is always important though. Congrats to you, your friends and family.
State land hunt no less...didn't notice that the first time. Makes all of these even more impressive.... :D
