This has to be one of the worst "fashion" trends in recent memory....

I'm a fan of some tattoos, just not on me. I have to admit some of the worst i've seen are on the hunting forums. People, make sure you go to an artist that knows what a deer and antlers look like

Tat's are kind of a rite of passage... I have a few, but all are hidden when in uniform, its an officer thing we have to adhere to.

Most every Marine has an EGA - Eagle Globe and Anchor, that was my first, and I earned it with a ton of sweat and blood - no trash involved in that.

That said, there are some folks who go overboard and sleeves and such are now banned in the Marine Corps.

I agree brother they can be a right of passage especially in the Corps. I never got my EGA but I do have my god country corps. They also can be used to remember. I was lucky as I put it to only loose one friend in the war and he will always be remembered with the tat I have on my back.

I never said I don't believe in tattoos. I just said neck tattoos and sleeve tattoos that are overboard are a bad trend. I can dig some people with tattoos, no problem.

I remember my Dad telling me once nearly 25 years ago to NEVER get into a fight with anyone with visible tattoos above the shirt collar because they've definitely spent enough time in prison to know how to fight dirty.

Words of wisdom I still try to live by.

I see no use in complaining about it, they are just as common as weird hair cuts and weirder clothing. I have tattoo's. One fairly large one exposed on my arm. It's my deal and I really don't care what it looks like when i'm 80. It has meaning to me and thats why I got it.

I usually get upset when someone asks me if I even thought about what it would look like in 20,30, or 40 years. I did not get it just for YOU, it's for ME.:poke:

Neck tattoos look like crap and so do the pics of the individuals I put in my original post. Tattoos of "thug life" and gang tattoos all over one's arms look like crap as well. I am not complaining, just stating my opinion. I could care less what you or others do in terms of tattoos, I just hate the trend and see every day what that trend does to influence young kids to put such ridiculous things on their bodies.

I'm not against tattoos either, just tattoos that get out of control. I even kind of like how tattoo sleeves look on some people, but as long as they are done by someone who has artistic talent. Anything above the collar bone, and on hands/fingers is ridiculous IMO.

It was not personally aimed at you, sorry if it came off as that. My biggest beef with the whole situation is that trends that have appealed to the younger crowd haven been around for years. Tattoo's have just become more apparent. Look at the drug use influence brought on by the 70's/80's. Of course I wasn't born until '89 and did not experience the 70's or 80's, take it with a grain of salt. It's all relevant to me.

Hair grows back and clothes are easily changed. Tats, not so much.
