I would love to try a trad bow. But, I am holding off for now. The reality of my life right now is that with young kids, I cannot commit the time to practice that I would want to in order to be proficient with it.

Funny I had a chevy tahoe it was all decked out and rode so nice, then I decided I wanted to step back in time and bought a 1968 Scout 800. Yeah it was fun to drive around here and there. Driving it 35 miles to work was another thing. No power steering, drum breaks, metal floor with a metal roof it was loud enough you could not really hear a radio. You had to drive defensively. I loved that truck but when I need to get from point A to point B my modern truck is more comfortable, efficient, and faster. I am getting too damn old to go back to making things harder just for the challenge. Hats off to you guys who have the time and patience.
Some how I missed this thread. I was given a Bear grizzly about 3 years ago from my wife's unkle. It was his from when he was a kid. It's 45 lbs and from the mid 60's. I cleaned it up and replaced the rest and sting. I shot the crap out of it, but the grip just doesn't feel right to me. So I picked up a used bear Montana longbow off ebay. I love this bow! Been shooting it for the past 3 years. Took it out 2 season ago a couple times. Missed my first buck with it at 13 yards! Nice big 7 pount, but didn't care, it was still such a rush! I had my longbow this year the night I had that big chocolate 10 point standing at 18 yarsds. I held that bow at ready to draw for a hour, just waiting for a couple more steps! I plan to hunt more with it this year, but just can't give up my compound completely, maybe that will change after my first kill.

did you move to the sight first or the rest first? I'm not s*talking, I am honestly curious. If I recall correctly, back in the day I started with a bare bow, then went to using a flipper rest and then added a single pin. Then I went to a compound. On this one, I am going to start completely bare and see how I do. I used to be a helluva instinctive shot on a moving target with a recurve, if I do say so myself. Although it got me into bad habits that to this day are still hard to break. No bueno with a compound and sights. I've lost more than one deer with a compound that I drew on while it was on the move, old habits took over and I could not stop myself from releasing.
not gonna lie; part of the reason I slipped the finger/pulled the trigger was a momentarily paranoid reaction related to the corona virus. I an completely unafraid of a virus which kills less of its victims than does the flu. But that doesn't mean that I am not afraid of mass hysteria and the havoc that brings.
Dont let the sight fool ya, I'm about to take it off. I only had it on to get back into the swing of it and make sure I wasn't flinging them into the neighbors yard. I have the magnetic wire rest on and that will stay.
I think that's the draw for me to trad bow. The simple setup. I shoot instinctive just off the shelf and no sights. I love shooting it and rarely shoot my compound bow. I feel like a kid again and has brought joy back to me in archery, which is a great thing! I have been jumping back and forth with split finger VS 3 under. I like the feel of split finger better, but some reason to shot better with 3 under. What are you guys shooting with? Currently I'm shooting with a tab, just a cheap one. This is what it's all about! That Fleetwood is only pulling #29 and shooting it for hours is just plain fun.
I used to shoot split 3; but supposedly top archers all shoot 3 under for accuracy. Guess I'll see. I'll start with a glove for sure.
You know if trees could talk we would not be so caviler about cutting them down unless they screamed all the time for no apparent reason. Not sure I would want a bow that called my name all the time either would probably say stfu some days.
I've been tempted too. full disclosure Kifarucast has played a big role in that. I actually think that having young kids will lend me to shoot more with a recurve. I can shoot at 10 yards in my driveway when its dark out but dont feel like its worth anything with the compound, with a recurve though 10 yards practice is still worthwhile... so when the kids are down and I finally have some time but its dark I can still shoot. hmmmm
