My wife and I are thinking about moving. She likes NC. I am huge into bowhunting (not saying I am an expert, just saying I love it). Anyway, I would like some opinions on these states. Anything from job market to cost of living to whatever you might have an opinion on, but particularly bow hunting. I live in VT now but the hunting is pretty bad and there are more liberals than you can shake a stick at. Here are the states I am considering.

NC, Western VA, WV, KY, KS, TN

Any advice you have would be much appreciated.

I don't know much about job market etc., but based on hunting I'd choose KY or KS

Yeah KS is always a strong choice for hunting period. I live in NC and the job market like anywhere else all depends on what industry your looking into. I own a business and am not the one to ask about specific job opportunities.

As far as bowhunting goes if you venture to western NC where I am you will have the longest bow season in the state. Our deer population and quality of deer have been increasing year after year.

As far as cost of living...I moved here from Florida and the cost of living is way lower. So I honestly think you have some good choices just research them as much as you can.

Kanas is cool. KY, TN would be close seconds for me.

Well there is good news. No matter where you move in the country, the deer hunting will be better, there will be fewer liberals, and there will be more and better jobs. ;):D

I lived in Vermont for most of my childhood and I moved away almost 15 years ago. Best thing I ever did. My mother and sister still live there, and every time I see them I try to convince them to leave. Unfortunately, it's not the beautiful state anymore that I grew up in. Everyone is unemployed, at every stoplight there is a subaru driver wearing birkenstocks, and hunters are looked down on 99% of the places you go. It's awfully sad to head up there to see my family the few times a year that I go, and not a single barn has the lights on anymore........:(.

I've said it before.....and I still feel this way, today. I wouldn't trade my grounds with anyone (I hunt NW North Carolina).

I enjoy "deer hunting". I've dabbled in "buck hunting".....with (subjectively) a little success. We're afforded liberal bag limits, here. And, we're blessed with a strong herd (numbers). I have multiple opportunities each season. To ME, that is hard to beat!

Are you more into bowhunting or deer bowhunting?...that also makes a difference. Problem with many of those states is the same problem I have here in IL...whitetails are your only big game option (although parts of KS may have Mulies & Pronghorns).

If you just love bowhunting Big game...I would say you need to seriously consider out West - particularly CO or WY...tons of public land - and multiple species.

If it just Deer hunting you want - think Midwest - unbelievably cheap cost of living...and in IL you can take 2 bucks and unlimited does - so shoot all you want from Oct 1 - approx Jan 17th.

Good Luck with your search - and take your time...that's exciting!

I would think finding a quality job would be of more importance than bowhunting...

If you're looking at Western Virginia, you're best bet would be to find a strong job in Roanoke. It's a growing city and there is good hunting in the surrounding Botetourt and Bedford counties.
